Yeh like Spartak Moscow for instance ;-)

3-1, actually :-)

It wasn't out best performance, no - but it was still a pretty good one. Even Roma's form on the night would still have beaten many excellent in-form teams.
Anyway, I'm off to bed... g'night!

Not really it's because of fergie's stupidity of letting our squad wear thin he let dwight and yorke go aswell as giving free transfers to a few players at the end of last season without replacing them, he then tried some idotic last minute buys which didn't quite work and now we are left with a small squad.

Youve just answered your own question there.

But then ours isn't either? - we have struggled against some daft teams and even lost, we should have beaten Leeds away, we dominated the match but we left there with nothing - we have shown an improvement in scoring and defending you cant say that we havent beaten teams on good form because our form has been nothing but pathetic, yet we pulled off a good victory away to basle and at home to Newcastle - who had a tremendous week and ok liverpool arent on best of form but I still didnt fancy our chances over there.

Well no, you cant say teams win games because the other team "played badly" - its like Arsenal, they won 3-0 away in Roma and weldone to them, but it was hardly a performance to be proud but they did what was required of them and thats what we are doing now but on a smaller scale.

Yeh but you said it yourself - how good are the media in twisting things? I have never heard these words from Fergie's mouth, maybe in the likes of the Sun etc do you actually think he'd say something like "we're coming for you?" - it's a load of bull that can only be twisted by this country media
and he is right we have turned the corner - but it has been intrepretated the wrongly by people, we were playing sh!te at one point but theres some belief back in the team and we have turned the corner into the right direction but far far away from a successful season.
> and our relativly young backline did very well
Yes, but they were playing against a Liverpool team who couldn't hit the side of a barn with a machine gun at the moment! :-)
> How could we replace anyone? did you not see the bench!
That's not what I said! I said a decent *team* could have replace either Man U or Liverpool on the pitch, and beaten the other team convincingly.
> We have some important players out at the moment
We did for much of last season, often at the same time, but we got through it.
> and our squad is looking relativly thin
True. And why? £30m on one player may have something to do with it!
> however the players who have come in as replacement have done well

It's all relative. If you just take the results (which granted, are the most important thing, then you could say yes. But if you think of who you've been beating and/or the lousy form they're in, it's a different story. Normally, beating Liverpool would be a great restult - but in their current form, it's nothing to shout about.
Fergie's right, things are going for you - but not in the sense that you're improving, just in the sense that everyone you've played recently has been in worse shape than you!
> Again he hasn't said "we are back on the glory tail" he has

He has according to the stories I've been reading. The other day he was warning title rivals "we're coming for you", and now he's saying you've "turned a corner". Beating Basle and Liverpool in their current form just means you're not quite as bad as them - which isn't saying much! ;-p
But now with probably a better team then last time around we're more well equipped for the 'Theatre of the gooners'
and they held on which was great to see.
> On *those performances*, a decent team could have replaced either, and

How could we replace anyone? did you not see the bench!
We have some important players out at the moment and our squad is looking relativly thin, however the players who have come in as replacement have done well dont you think?

Again he hasn't said "we are back on the glory tail" he has never said we are back in the title hunt, we have recently got a few good wins under our belts and are slowly getting back on our feet, Liverpool are second in the league and a win was required against them and we did it, we have turned the corner from the slump we were in and the players do have some hunger back in them again, but thats about it.

I agree, I never thought we'd even beat Newcastle at home, I thought that would be a draw and we'd probabaly draw or lose to liverpool, it will certainly be a different game because Arsenal are flying at the moment give or take a glitch here or there, our team stands thin and ive always said a draw against you lot would probabaly be a good result as things stand.
> If you lost on Saturday, the critics will be on you again.
Well, nothing new there....
>But if we lose this Saturday, we'll still be top of the league, so we'll still be smiling. :-D
True, but then so will we...
:)
> i can go out and buy that Arsenal 'Magic hat' DVD
Got that!
Thankfully, DVD doesn't wear out like te old VHS... I can't begin to count the number of times I've watched that. :-)
It's *almost* as good a Michael "It's Up For Grabs Now" Thomas at Anfield!
Until Dropsy Dudek fumbled, the match was dire.
Liverpool are in a slump, there's no denying that. Difficulty scoring, and some very average defending. Yet it took over an hour and a goalkeeping mistake to git you your first goal.
The seconds came minutes later, with Liverpool still in shock.
Then, you all but fell apart. Liverpool got a goal back, and towards the end, you were hanging on.
On *those performances*, a decent team could have replaced either, and beaten the other convincingly. Obviously, "playing all 22" was a joke, but - again, *on those performances* - not that big a joke!
On recent performances, either team, putting in an identical performance against an Arsenal side in their recent form over the same period, would have lost.
The game was a well-below-par United beating an even-more-below-par Liverpool, and suddenly Fergie thinks you're back on the glory trail.
Now I'm not saying that you will lose on Saturday, because that's a different game. All I'm saying is that, the Liverpool or Man U of the last 2 weeks would lose against the Arsenal of the last 2 weeks.
But like some of geezer once said - it's a funny old game.
If you lost on Saturday, the critics will be on you again. But if we lose this Saturday, we'll still be top of the league, so we'll still be smiling. :-D
