...by gettinga job in retail. I don't know where yet, but my financial situation has reached its ...ahem, 'apex', so I'm an need of cash, and have decided to get a job, probably as a shop assistant or something. I know the work is going to be brainless and boredom-inducing, but it has become a necessity.

I hate most people that are shop assistants - most of them are unhelpful, rude prats (no offence to any here, hence the word 'most'), and now I'm probably going to end up one of them. Last week I was in Superdrug. It was a busy Saturday, the queue was reaching Great Wall of China-like proportions, and I had about 50p Pix 'n' Mix.

The guy goes "I need to get this weighed".

"It costs 46p, I weighed it", I replied.

"Yeah, but I still have to weigh it", he squeaked back.

But because the queue was so long, he had to go and ring the bell. About 7 minutes later, with the queue of disgruntled customers growing ever longer, some wisecrack came strolling up, laughing and joking with other staff members.

"Here, what can I do?" he asks, smirking.

"Weigh this", the useless one goes.

Time im queue now appraoching 15 mins. He goes off to weigh it, comes back and whispers in the till assistants ear.

"So how much was it then?", I ask, seriously annoyed by now. His answer?

"46p".

That's what I've got to look forward to...

Ah, the secret of working in retail is this.

It works for all situations, no matter how long the queue is, no matter how long you keep people waiting, how annoyed people are, whatever people say or do, any complaints people have, no matter how stupid what you have to do is;

It doesn't actually effect you, and you get paid no matter what happens. If people are daft enough to queue for 20 minutes for that essential pack of chewing gum then let them. Stand, or sit, and be happy in the knowledge that you're getting paid to be in whichever retail disaster it is, whilst the other suckers are wasting their time in your queue.

Top Man employees suck.
A few months ago I bought some jeans in there, I was the only one queuing up at the till and there were about 3 gay looking men poncing around serving me, but did they remember to take the security tag off?
No, all those incompetent prats were there but not one of them remembered to remove the tag, so I head down stairs to the exit only for that bloomin’ alarm to go off. GGGGGRRRR!!

Not content with doing it once though, they managed to do the same thing to my brother a couple of weeks ago in there.

Bungling gay chimps.

I did my work experience at TOP MAN. I vowed never to work in a shop again, unless it was GAME or something

I refuse to work in any clothes or food shop, especially a supermarket like ASDA (big one close to my house)

The job I got back in August is very simple, just type numbers for three hours after college, but I can't start it till I've done 2 weeks training, which is impossible since the training is during the day and I have college during the day, surprise surprise. They told me I should just take two weeks of college to do the training. Oh how I laughed at that.

So, right now, I'm in the same situation as RM18. My addiction to buying DVDs and going drinking means I have zero money constantly, especially since I just spent £220 on a PS2

Still, I'd never sink to the same low as RM18, and work in retail. For shame, RM18, for shame (no offense to SR staff, I'm sure working in a games shop is fun)
