"Something that really bugged me......."

The other day, some music was playing on a stereo above our sports hall, in a balcony wherre me and some friends were sitting. Today, by the Smashing Pumpkins came on. I thought 'oh cool'. A girl asked me who it was, and so I said who, and that they, in my opinion, were one of the best bands around. She said 'if they're so good, how come I've never heard of them'.

This really annoyed me. I think it was in an arrogant sense - I felt everybody should know who they were, as their music means so much to me. It wasn't her fault, but I got really pis*ed off inside at that comment - thats what bugged me - her comment, and then my reaction.

Anybody else had somebidy being ignorant of something you love, and having it realy annoy you?

I think there's not a soul that could disagree with that.

Everyone likes something different, and I can appreciate pretty much any kind of taste.

Except for modern chart garage, which is utter toss.

Dance music. Hate it. Except for Nick Warren.
The idea of wearing a big nappy in a warehouse and dancing for 8hrs whilst mashed off my baps doesn't appeal.

Heh, when you get into something like house music (proper house, not the sort of utter garbage that graces the charts), you get used to people having never heard of your all time favorites.

So when someone says to me "oh, my fav is britney" or aguilera, or shakira, mariah carey etc etc etc etc. I just nod my head and snigger on the inside.

Unfair really, since everybody likes something different. But I am convinced that anyone who like chart garage has sustained brain damage. Much like the people who make it, and rappers.

Nobody at all has heard of one of my favorite bands ever. And when I played a track to a co-worker, they just started hitting things and saying "listen I can play heavey metal too". That was bad enough but I wasn't even listening to anything very heavy. I was listening to Snake River Conspiracy, not Strapping Young Lad or anything. :(

The wierd thing about music sometimes is that some people don't want their type of music to go mainstream.

In my old school I had a mate who liked groups like Slipknot, far before 8 year olds walk around wearing Slipknot hoodies. Rather than like the mainstream acceptance, he resents - he doesn't go near Slipkont with a barge pole now.

Godsmack are quite popular in America.

And they suck.

I'm a firm believer that if you're music's good enough it will go mainstream. That's not to say all mainstream is good, but all good will eventually get the success it deserves, if the people want it to.

But then I haven't had my heart broken and dreams crushed yet.
