If you have seen the news today - a professor has carried out a live autopsy on a 72 year old german infront of 400 people and TV camara's despite being threatened that he will be aresseted by the police.

The professor felt that it had to be done to 'educate people'

Some found it rather disturbing and others enjoyed watching it, I personally think it's quite sick.

do you agree or disagree with this?

I'll have a copy if anyone has it!

The main problem with the Autopsy was that the body had been 'fixed' meaning that it had been preserved to remove all the unsightly stuff that would have made the whole audience puke and pass out.My girlfriend is a doctor and has studied cadavers but has also been involved in live operations and autopsies and the difference is huge.
If the camera had focused on the cadaver and not the crowd it may have had some educational value but I find Prof. Von Hagan's motives to be entirely driven by fame and fortune, preying on the macarbe human interest with death. Death is part of life - yes, but if he made an exhibition about a man eating a bowl of cornflakes would it have the same impact?
As soon as you charge people an entrance fee it becomes art and as long as it is advertised as art its ok but dont pretend that anything he does is education except to maybe the odd Sun reader who has trouble locating their own butt with two hands and a flash light.

And take the damn gimmicky hat off! That is just insulting my intelligence.

Not really that grusome. I presume they drained the body of bloody before they began, though, because he was totally yellow! I'm telling you, you don't wanna eat a cheeseburger after watching it :P

Personally, I didn't think that it was too sick, though, it's just a matter of life and nature (and in this case, death). I didn't really find it sick at all, but I still think that it was a publicity stunt, not really education.

And yes, they could've covered the guys *ahem*

I was going to go and see the Bodyworks thing, but there was a huge queue and I was only in London for the day. So I went to the Tate instead. That's how cultured *I* am.

1) That was a show, not a real modern autopsy.
2) I thought everyone knew what an autopsy was anyway
3) Congrats to unknown kernel for a brilliantly concise roundup of it all

Stuff it, who cares. None of this really matters anyway.

I mean, how would you like millions of people to be looking at yours when you're lying dead on a table!

Although you wouldn't know about it, it's dignity!
