If they did, I can't imagine the either Ian Hislop or Paul Merton would let that little tid-bit pass them by without comment?

I don't think anyone cares about what he did, but the panels just don't let him forget it. If you watch the show you'll know every other joke is about him recently. It's like:
"Blah blah in the news this week, for blah blah of the blah" -Angus
"You're a fine one to talk Angus" -panel
"Hahahahahahah" - audience
