Right, getting broadband next week.

Appreciate it if someone could tell me how to hook up two PCs to the modem? What cables do I need to buy etc...

Thanks in advance.

my dad has broadband, we have been trying to link it up like my mates because he has broadband on two computers in two different rooms and it works, but it just doesnt seem to work on mine, but just use a network hub, look on here, you only need a small one. and you also need a lan cable, if u need help just ask.

I agree with AMD_MAN, all you need is two NICs and some crossover, going down the whole router route (hur hur hur) will just be costly and annoying.

Its a cable modem by the way. Getting it on Wednesday.

So, basically, i wont be needing a router, just some wires?

A router would be o.k. but more expensive and to be hounest im not sure you would actually need one, just get 2 nics and some crossover cabel and set up windows internet connection sharing, is it cable or adsl braudband mate.

..and take up less room..

You'll need 2 NICs, I just presumed he knew that, and they install it into your PC when you get BB..well, they did for me.

You also need two NICs for each computer (network interface card).

However, the way I would do it is buy an internal ADSL modem for a crap PC you hardly ever use, then plug that into a network switch or hub, and plug the other computer into that, then set up Internet Connection Sharing (or similar non-crap NAT software) and use that as the gateway. It's more complicated, but shoudl be less expensive (ask you don't actually need a hub or switch, you can just use crossover for only 2 computers). You'll also get more control over your connection.

A router would be fine though :)

Not actually supposed to do that :p
*whispers*
buy a router, 2 (or as many) patch (NIC sized) cables as you need, plug them both into the router/PCs, and there will be a hole for the modem's cable to go into, I hope I don't need to tell you what goes in it ;)
