Gamers have grown up, the demographic has shifted, there are now more 20 something gamers than ever before.

The gaming industry hasn't changed fast enough to reflect this. Games have got more violent for sure, there's more brain-splattering limb-tearing head-biting gut-wrenching 18+ action then ever before, but what about the sex?

Where are the cut scenes with Lara Croft doing a full-frontal as she gets out of the shower? Where are the sex scenes in Final Fantasy between the lead characters? Why aren't there options to undress more women in the James Bond games?

It seems the closest the Europeans have got to this type of titillation is having two female lead characters in Fear Effect 2 that get on better than they should do, or the implied sex in Grand Theft Auto 3. Can anyone actually recall seeing a nipple in a game yet?

It seems OK for the Japanese to have their 'stalking the young girl' games and 'voyeuristic photography games', and of course if you want to spend the extra money you can import these kinds of titles. But we shouldn't have to.

Face it, sex IS entertaining, and sex DOES sell product. I'm not saying that sex should be the main theme of a game, put it should definitely be included in some 18+ rated games.

I suppose with the UK censorship laws there would be an ethical and moral minefield for developers to navigate; for example they'd have to make sure that sex and violence are not linked in any way, that underage sex was not alluded to, that forced scenarios were not included and so on. Plus of course they'd have to face the wrath of the Daily Mail, and probably have to run the gauntlet of a few new White Papers going through Parliament if they started to break the mould and include, Lord forgive me for saying this, nipples in a cut scene.

It's essentially down to market forces, but personally I feel there are enough gamers out there ready to see nudity in games as par for the course. Maybe developers and console manufacturers could to a trial run of 'D***s on Bikes: GP' on XBox or 'Harry's Harem' for the PS2 over in liberated Sweden to see how things go.

Games aren't just for kids, more and more adults play them too, so I feel that more and more games developers should start to reflect this.

*raises hand*

Duke Nukem on the PC had topless dancers.

And in the wonderful story in Mafia, the lead character has sex with his future wife in a cut scene. It's very tasteful and is just like watching a sex scene in any decent film.

The problem with most games involving sex is that the game is based purely around the gimmick and has little gameplay to match it.
Either that or it's a clone of another game with rude pictures.

I think that if a develloper did one properly it could probably work, but all the decent devellopers generally have too much dignity and self respect to make it.

A multiplayer party game with Nintendo style fun gameplay but "adult" humour and innuendo would go down a storm across the entire world.

I'm 100% with you on that. But I think it's entirely possible to include sex in a game and yet still end up with a AAA (as opposed to purely XXX) title.

I'm not saying that adult oriented games should be wholly based around sex, just that, like violence is, it should be included more.

We'll always get extremes, take the Mortal Kombat series. This is a violent game, but then it's a beat 'em up, it's meant to be violent. However, would anyone declare Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty to be a violent game? It's doubtful, even though you can kneecap guards, snap their necks, blow seagulls to bits with Stinger Missiles and use human shields to prevent getting shot, that's not what MGS2 is remembered for, it's about stealth, exposing a deep plot, exploration and collecting items to aid your quest and so on.

What I'm looking for is a Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty with sex replacing the violence. (It's difficult to forsee how they could actually do that, maybe shoot 'em ups isn't the right genre to use as an example).

BMX XXX doesn't answer my prayers either, Acclaim are definitely using sex to sell the game, although from what a renowned reviewer said (lo Ali), "...But the surprising thing is that BMX XXX is actually a pretty damn good BMX game, regardless of the smut..." it could still sell well on it's own merits as a 'game' rather than a voyeuristic experience.

If it's going to be used to sell poor games it isn't. Leaving that aside, developers don't actualy have any restrictions on putting this content in, not since games started getting BBFC ratings. As long as the content doesn't exceed the BBFC 18 classification then it could be in a game.

A few people have noticed that including sex in a game could sell it, we know that, developers know that, marketing knows that. Yet there are very few games with it in. I think this is something that developers don't really care about all that much, apart from Acclaim at the moment ;) Even so ( I didnt know they'd lost the Dave Mira part) without the license behind it Tony Hawk 4 will trash it, sex or no sex.

Oh, and to highlight some of the problems developers face when producing games such as this, Acclaim have had to drop Dave Mirra from the BMX XXX game and scrap all the licenced riders entirely. The only thing it now has in common with Dave Mirra is that it uses the Dave Mirra 2 engine.

In the US it's being aimed at an R rating, so basically anything goes. This is the kind of game I'm on about in my initial post, more of this is required in general games. The closest we ever got so far was Conker's Bad Fur Day, BMX XXX is basically CBFD on bikes.

LOL! I just watched the official trailer for it, the slogan is:

"We're going to hell for this, and you're all coming with us!"
Dave Mirra XXX: Keep it Dirty.

I've never had such a quick response to one of my posts from a developer before, good old Acclaim.

Nope, retailers supply them but the material is available on them. Yes, this post I've made is pointless, but what the heck....

Yeah, anyone with an ounce of a brain will look a tthe quality of the game rather than the nudity content, but there are many people that will specifically buy the Dave Mirra game for it's content. Sales will undoubtedly be high, the developers will cotton on that bare chests equals big sales, and jump on the bandwagon.

Pop this post in 2 years time and see if I'm right!
