Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool are as good as Arsenal and the midfielder has warned the Gunners they face a fight to retain the title.

Arsenal have enjoyed an awesome start to the season and currently sit two points clear of the Reds at the top of the Premiership.

But, while Gerrard recognises that Arsene Wenger's side will again be the side to beat this season, he says the feeling in the dressing room at Anfield is that Liverpool are now on the same level as them.

"Arsenal and Manchester United are not better than us," he said. "OK, Arsenal won the Double and are a great side, but if you ask anyone at our club if they think they are better than us, everyone will say the same.

"Maybe a few years ago we had some catching up to do, but if we play Arsenal we can beat them. Arsenal are not going to run away with the title this season - we are not prepared to let that happen."

Gerrard also admitted Liverpool were happy to not be grabbing the headlines in the same way the Gunners have so far this term, and are waiting in the wings if and when the champions slip up.

He added: "People keep going on about Arsenal, but our view is to let them. We prefer it actually.

"We are happy to keep a low profile and just carry on as we have been doing. If they slip up, we'll be there."

Its amazing how United started creating lots more chances as soon as Veron left the pitch...

I thought Gary Neville was amazing running down that right wing all night considering he's just come back from a a v.big lay-off.

No moaning, but the scoreline was flattering in the extreme. United struggled.

Three-nil it is then.

A ninety minute game is a ninety minute game, so no moaning about this one... :)

Under George Graham, maybe - no way that can be applied to Arsenal under Wenger, though.

I doubt you were born when Arsenal 'first' won the title. Arsenal's successes go back further than the ten years or so of United's! :-)

Looking at your recent form... and the game going on against Everton on Sky at this very moment... I don't think even they compare to Arsenal, to be honest - certainly at the moment, anyway. Probably the only thing they have over Arsenal is Beckham's dead-ball skills... but I think I'd rather have Freddie out there. :-)

Slow... boring.... sounds-like Arsenal!

Classic!

But seriously, I have to agree with you, Liverpool's midfield is nothing compared to Arsenal's - even without Petit now.
When they're on-form, Pires, Vieira, Gilberto and Ljungberg (or maybe Parlour...) are unstoppable.

The Arsenal midfield is simply one of the best in the world - along with United's own; Giggs, Scholes, Keane and Beckham - of course! :D

And as for Liverpool... Gerrard and Hamman are the only players who are ever playing there on a regular-basis! The other 2 positions are always being occupied by people on a Rotational basis like Murphy - who ISN'T a right-winger, Salif Diao, and even Emile Heskey!

Which midfield line-up is he talking about anyway!???
Not that any of them could even match Arsenal's anyway.

Well, having just watched the first half of Liverpool v Chelsea, I agree.

He must have been talking in his sleep, as a dream is the only place where Liverpool could be anywhere near the quality of Arsenal!

Slow, boring, disjointed, rushed inaccurate passing, and of course numerous failed 'route one' attempts.

Go back to sleep, Gerrard - you won't find the truths of the real world so upsetting, and you'll generally feel safer and more secure there.

Liverpool could win the Premiership if they have a decent run of wins and hope Arsenal slip up.

But I can't see that happening, and can see Arsenal winning the Premiership with ease.
