Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool are as good as Arsenal and the midfielder has warned the Gunners they face a fight to retain the title.
Arsenal have enjoyed an awesome start to the season and currently sit two points clear of the Reds at the top of the Premiership.
But, while Gerrard recognises that Arsene Wenger's side will again be the side to beat this season, he says the feeling in the dressing room at Anfield is that Liverpool are now on the same level as them.
"Arsenal and Manchester United are not better than us," he said. "OK, Arsenal won the Double and are a great side, but if you ask anyone at our club if they think they are better than us, everyone will say the same.
"Maybe a few years ago we had some catching up to do, but if we play Arsenal we can beat them. Arsenal are not going to run away with the title this season - we are not prepared to let that happen."
Gerrard also admitted Liverpool were happy to not be grabbing the headlines in the same way the Gunners have so far this term, and are waiting in the wings if and when the champions slip up.
He added: "People keep going on about Arsenal, but our view is to let them. We prefer it actually.
"We are happy to keep a low profile and just carry on as we have been doing. If they slip up, we'll be there."
> Also don't forget we are missing Roy Keane at the moment
That's no excuse!
Bergkamp, Pires, van Bonckhorst, Keown, Parlour, and Ljungberg have all been missing this season - all of them at the same time in some games!
It doesn't really matter if it isn't working now, in-general, it's one of the best midfield line-ups in the World.
And when I said about the first time Arsenal won the title, I was talking about the first time they won the Premiership - in '98.
I remember it well... the Cameras at Sky located a fat Evertonian lost in the land of his dreams, while Tony Adams banged in no.4.
And as for last night, we were only struggling with one man in the attack.
Once Solskjaer came-on to play as the second striker, those balls from Beckham and Giggs were actually being recieved - even if Solskjaer missed a real sitter as soon as he came on.
I don't think it was just because it was Solskjaer, I reckon it was because we had 2 in the attack as Scholes was allowed to drop back into his comfortable role.
I reckon that even if Forlan had come-on instead of Ole we would've looked much stronger in the attack, because he is a natural-born striker - unlike Scholes.
It seems that once again Veron's addittion is causing us problems in the attack. Fergie feels he HAS to play Veron, while he knows he cannot leave-out a player like Scholes either.
Veron's not a bad player or anything, it's just that Fergie's always trying to fit him in. And by-all-means, he's been a real asset in Europe for us this season! Such a shame he can't do the same in the Premiership.
:D

> weren't.
I meant Liverpool, not United...
> Sounds a lot like how Arsenal played against Auxerre...
True, it wasn't pretty - but we were always in control - United weren't.

Sounds a lot like how Arsenal played against Auxerre...
