It's not really that hard actually if you search on the last level, all you have to do is get every available coins from enimes and hanging about, then all you do is destroy the water melons as many times as you want until you get 100 coins. SIMPLE!
I was actually able to get 100 coins on Serina Beach on tthe first level without the hotel! It was quite hard but I kept spraying the floor for extra coins, but it took me bloody ages to do it. It's possible!

Orr, you could just press start and choose "Leave area"
A lot easier, and you don't need to lose any lives.
I have 88 shines and have just defeated Bowser
