Konami have pulled MGS2 substance from their Japanese release list for the Xbox because it has not achieved a satisfactory installed user base.

But the designers are making games for it, as Microsoft are paying them enough money. They're just not making the games for their home country.

So what's the problem?

In one way your point is right. But the Japan market has an influence on all the world because it has such a large number of gamers and game designers. It's all about the international market place. What happens in one place has an effect in other parts. If any console manufacturer can't get the Japanese public to buy their machine and get their designers to produce software for it - then your in trouble. There's also an issue of some small + medium game manufacturers waiting to see what the Japan market does. If they like it and buy it, and design for it, then it must be ok - so goes the theory.

Exactly. It will not be released in JAPAN! Correct me if I'm wrong, but we're in Europe. This means we will still get the game. I have no plans to go to Japan, I never have been to Japan, I can't even name three cities in Japan.

Why the hell would I want to know how the Xbox is doing there?

I just don't know how to "feel" about XBox now. There's nothing much wrong with it (apart from a few machines with disc read errors), and it has a edge in performance (mainly XBox exclusive stuff only), and the price is ok.

Then the current state of games. Lots of ports - not so good (they seldom look any better than the PS2 original, and whats the point in swapping Next Gen consoles to play the same thing?) But there are a few games already confirmed which are tempting, like Doom 3 + Halo 2.

And now the big M goes on a shopping trip - buying up all various software. They want to own as much as poss, so whatever game you go and buy, it will be under the big M umbrella. Later, these games would go XBox/XBox 2 exclusive, so you might find yourself needing an XBox/XBox2.

So do I hope for the best, and dig my heals in and say, No way to the XBox - i dont like there marketing tactics. Or, do i see the future unfolding on XBox, and Sony/Nintendo losing most of their games, forget the rights and wrongs of the marketing and get an XBox.

Definately. Fair enough if they buy the licence for them to have the game on their machine, but to buy it so noone else can have it is just bully-boy tactics.

With the big M using it's aggressive "buy the entire market" tactics, the less games it gets - the better!
