well the reason I think music is brilliant is becuase like when you listen to punk rock, like Blink 182 their songs are just so uplifting and make you feel really happy. I think I have an unhealthy obsession for Slipknot. For those of you who dont like REAL music.. i.e stuff played by instruments rather than that crap rap or MC'ing which is just moho (work it out Then I assume you've never been to a concert. A concert is one of the most brilliant experiances EVEr. Even if you dont like Slipknot I suggest you go to see them cos the ambience of everone else just having a good time and the loud beats and bass surging through your body like it actually does is one of the best experiances EVER. Seriousley if you have never been to any type of rock concert you are seriousley missing out. Just imagine your whole body vibrating to the bass, its truly amazing.

That's what is so terrible about radio-friendly-unit-shifting music. It doesn't make you feel. It can't - be definition, a radio-friendly song cannot make anyone feel, because then it wouldn't be radio friendly. Imagine what would happen if Chris Moyles tried to play decent, mood changing music - it would be an emotional disaster. If you went from some angry Tool stuff to Counting Crows to Otis Redding, it just wouldn't work.
Oh, and I think a lot of music is about memory. Heartbreaker always reminds me of a party I went to once. Better Than Ezras - Closer reminds me of my holiday in France.

It can't - be definition, a radio-friendly song cannot make anyone feel, because then it wouldn't be radio friendly. I think you need to get your terminology right... I doubt severely that what you think gothic pop is, is what it actually is...
Anyway, heavy bands (most of them anyway) do not just mash a guitar or hit the drums as fast as possible, it is just a stereotype by people who don't like alternative rock music to try and make out like you need no skill to play heavy music...

I just think that the groups in New-age rock and Gothic pop should get some actual Guitar, singing and drumming lessons to make more than just two sylables when they play, not just hitting the drum and expect it to be good.

Lol, so I assume you can speak more than one word at a time...? If anyone could speak more than one word at a time they'd probably confuse everyone as no-one would be able to differentiate between the different words they were saying... or something... anyway, enough picking at your grammer (or lack thereof :D) I'll make the assumption that you don't just mean the popular 'heavy' bands out there, but you mean alternative rock music in general.
Much of it is angst driven. It appeals to teenagers who are sick of radio friendly music and want something different, maybe rebellious. People enjoy it because of many reasons. While a lot of music you can just put on in the background, something heavy can grab you by the balls and not let go. It can force you to focus on it. And music isn't there to sooth you. It is there (or at least should be) to convey a message and/or an emotion. Shame so much of the stuff we're bombarded with does neither. But I feel a band screaming down a mic can convey more emotion than anyone with their perfectly tuned voice singing about... God knows... listen to some S club 7 songs and you try to figure out what they're supposed to be singing about... Thing about rock music. It can be raw and just simply an adrenaline rush, but it often does tries to convey something. To a certain extent it doesn't even matter whether it's trying to convey hate, love, despair, hope, disgust, politics, or anything, because it is still trying to convey some kind of emotion, which I feel just isn't done enough in music. Too much is just throwaway music.

Speak for yourself. Fear Factory always send me right off to sleep. I find Heavy Metal helps me rid myself of Angst. Its the only music I can get completely lost in. Its a matter of taste. I think that R&B is tuneless rubish. but others may beg to differ
