taken from cube-europe

Yesterday we shocked you with the news that Nintendo has sold it's 49% stake it held in Rare to Microsoft. Now we know who has the right for what franchise.

Many of you must have been wondering about what will happen with games like Banjo Kazooie, or more importantly, Perfect Dark.

New details have now hit the net. Nintendo has sold the rights to: Perfect Dark, Conker, and Banjo Kazooie to Microsft/Rareware. Nintendo will keep the rights for Donkey Kong and Star Fox, and will internally develop the next Donkey Kong game.

What will happen to Kameo: Elements of Power is still unknown. It's probably (unfortunately) safe to say that this game won't come out on the GameCube, as it has never been released on another Nintendo console before, and Nintendo thus doesn't have any rights to it.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo no more PD for cube :(

Remember when halo came out and you were all saying that PD is seriously going to whip it well now i dont give a tripe if it does or not but would prefer it to as i own an xbox and you wont be able to play PD Nintys as nofriendo has lost a decent games maker to one of the best up and coming companys in the games industry. I dont care if you smack me down i ma sick and tired of you nintys thinking the xbox is crap when it isnt.

Heres my 5 reasons.....

1. Excellent game lineup which include titles such as Splinter Cell, MGS: Substance, Toejam & Earl 3, DOA 4, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, Halo 2, etc.

2. Saving your favourite CD tracks to the hard drive allows you to listen to them as background music in certain games without having to sacrifice the other sounds in the game.

3. X-Box Live. Easily going to be the best online service of the 3 consoles.

4. The hard drive can store all your game saves without the need to buy a memory card and also allows developers to create games with elements that can't be done on the other 2 consoles. Also, when it comes to saves, the hard drive can hold a lot more than a memory card - so no more frustrating moments of the likes of Madden taking up a whole card. Plus a lot more player created levels in games such as Timesplitters 2 can be stored.

5. The console covers different areas of gaming. Beyond the 1 or 2 player games, there are 4 ports available straight away to allow upto 4 players. There is a system link option that allows a number of X-Box consoles to be linked, allowing very large multiplayer games (i.e 16 player Halo). Then of course there is X-Box Live which offers you the chance to play large multiplayer games online and compete against people from around the world while constantly talking through the headset.

There's no point suddenly trying to pretend like Rare going doesn't matter, or you don't care, because they were damn good game developers and were of mammoth importance during the N64's tenure.

There's no point trying to pretend like you don't care, or you aren't bothered, because you are. I loved Rare's games, and as I'm not buying an Xbox, will probably never play a new Rare game again. And guess what? I'm disappointed, but its not the end becuase Rare aren't the be all and end all - there's still some brilliant developers out there.

How many titles does the GameCube have?

How many by christmas?

How many more by March '03?

How many games are Rare likely to make during that period?

As a percentage, the answer to that last question is about 1%

Rare going over to MS is hardly the bitter blow it's made out to be.

I really don't care.

1. It's one developer. Maybe Nintendo should try and get Konami and Capcom interested more in their console. That would bring more class than Rare provide.

2. Games are games, If you really, really like a game then surely you would buy the console for it. Final Fantasy was the reason i got GameCube. :-)

3. Perfect Dark is one FPS, as Mr. Meka said.

4. If Rare haven't done hardly anything on GC yet anyway, are you really missing out?

Five excellent reasons, eh? I'm up for a challenge like that!

1) It's one of the three next-gen consoles - you gotta catch em all, you know! (well, I did)

2) It's got the best graphics of the bunch at present.

3) Halo - it IS the best console FPS

4) The Sega support just goes from strength to strength and most of the sequels to the great DC games are appearing here, JSRF, Gotham (not Sega, I know, but still), Panzar Dragoon, Shenmue series etc.

5) You can play your own music from the hard drive when you play games. Ok, so I know you could just stick on a CD, but its a cool little option, trust me.
