Do blind people dream?

What do they see?

I see faces when I close my eyes. Some photo-realistic, some silhouetted... Sometimes I just see mouthes of noses or eyes.

It's actually quite disturbing. Like the Orange advert whenever I shut my eyes.

I just asked my mate on MSN what his opinion was...

He didn't seem to interested in the question but drew me a little drawing of a blind person on MSN...

Very clever!

Yes, they do. If they have previously had the use of their eyes, chances are their dreams will be just like ours. However, if they were born blind they see a series of colours and swirling patterns I believe, which the brain makes, without needing anything to base it on. Probably similar to when you close your eyes and see patterns etc

Yup. :0)

The problem is, no blind person will be able to explain it... maybe they don't even dream at all.

I alway wondered how you would try and explain the colour Red to a blind person!

It just confuses you...

Hmmmmm...

I think that if they haven't always been blind they will dream the same as everyone else, but if they have always been blind then their dreams will be of the world as they percieve it. i.e sensations like touch and sound.

Is this making any sense?

You should ask one

I'm sure those who have not been blind all their life still dream... but not sure if you have been blind from birth.

I'm sure they dream... conversation, feelings etc

Or maybe see what they think the world looks like

I don't think I could live if I woke up blind tomorrow
