Want to be a beta tester?

Westwood's Elite-alike MMORPG has entered open public beta testing. The game can be downloaded from www.download.com and I assume www.filemirrors.com also, but file mirrors was down last night when I was searching.

But anyway. Go, download, enter. Be warned though, it's a 1 gig download!

go to the BETA site "if its still up" and sign up you should get a reply in a few ours or so. They give you a download link for the CM version "1 Gig" and the 56k Friendly version "split downloads". Its a pretty reasonable DL speed. Took me 7 hours but its a great game, grpahics, missions. Just the combats not my cup of tea. Hope you guys enjoy it though its definatly worth the DL.

That seems like a bad move, especially from EA who love to cash in on games which will make them lots of money. I remember the same thing being mentioned about The Sims online not so long ago. I hope this isn't a growing trend by the company, its bad enough they rush some games to release, but not releasing them altogether!!!

Anyway, I'm still downloading the beta to try the game out for myself, for some reason the download had stopped yesterday so I've since then resumed it. 42%, hope its worth the wait.

No UK/Europen release for this game kids!

I'm using Gigex. It's been OK so far, though I'm only 10% complete, and I agree, Fileplanet is a naff place to download files, especially when they are as big as this beta.

my download keeps screwing up. I'm going to have to find somehwere other than fileplanet to get it.

I'm downloading the Earth and Beyuond beta now, probably won't be able to play it tonight as I'm at work, but I'll hopefully be able to try it tommorow.

I'll certainly keep a look out for the game, I think I'll be able to buy them both together if I'm lucky. I've played a demo of the game as well, actually more fun than I anticipated.

both Homeworld and Homeworld: Cataclysm are worth playing. Top games both, but the latter is somewhat easy after playing through the original game...

I never owned the origanal game, though I suppose because Beta isn't starting til spring next year, I can buy it on budget. Until then, I think I'll try out Earth and Beyond beta this weekend, and see for myself if it's any good.

The first game absolutely rocked! I'll buy it regardless of reviews, since I've been waiting ages for this. However, I've just learned that it doesn't start Beta testing until Spring 2003. I'll let you know when it starts.
