What about you? You sound like you have a lot of space. We live in a 100 year old semi-detached house. My grandparents owned the house next door which is exactly the same but it a detached house and the mayor of the town lived there. The garden was huge, maybe a little more than our two gardens put together. It has 2 blocks of flats in it and a carpark now though. So about 8 families live there now when I remember it being a big lawn, a long hedge and then a giant vegetable and strawberry patch. :) you could have had an orchard of apple trees there :D

lol no unfortunately, I wouldnt consider it big, we have one big apple tree but we tend to eat the apples of the smaller trees which are about 12ft at the most. I'm sure if we wanted to, we could have many apple, pear and plum trees (hmm wonder what other trees we could grow) as well as everything else and still have a very large vegetable patch, maybe 2 big green houses and still have a big lawn and a shed and a conservatory and a garage :) There would be room for chickens, but there are so many cats around I wouldnt want to risk it :D Still it would be nice to have some eggs every day. I was just reading on this one guys site, saying he gets about 50+ eggs a week just from 8 chickens. I think we only eat 12 eggs a week, depends really.

All this fruit picking has made me want to grow more though :) I think people should do that instead of buying food that's travelled 100s miles up and down the motor way.

Yeah, we have got a few foxes around here, but the run area is fully secure. Heh, we've got a cat and he sits on top of their run's netting just watching. :-P

Have you got quite a bit of land then, sounds like you've got a mini-orchard?

That's great :D more chickens to come, you wont have any problems with foxes will you? I dont think we would if we had chicken although we do have some foxes around here.

We've only got two at the moment, but we plan to extend their run and build a larger hutch for them so we can get some more. Egg-wise we've had about one a day (between the two of them) since we got them. Delicious too. :-)

Cats laying eggs? Possibly the best idea ever? :-P

As for the pear tree I think it's struggling at the moment: it's not producing much. :-/

Wow that's cool :D I'd love to have some chickens, how many do you have and how many eggs do you tend to get, if only cats were a more useful pet :) we spend so much feeding him and we get no eggs :p

We could use a pear tree, I love pears, we use to have a greenhouse but we havent grown anything in it for many years, we use to grow some herbs but then that didnt work too well. We have a neighbour who grows lots and lots of things, they tend to share their food with us :D

Heh, sounds quite similar to our garden. We've got several apple trees, a plum, pear and fig tree, a rhubarb patch, some carrots and blackberry bushes.

We've also picked up some chickens recently, so we've got quite a few eggs. :-)

I just noticed that one of our apple trees only has one big apple on it, doesnt make sense :S there's nothing on the floor, I wonder if it's common for an apple tree to have only one apple. The other trees have 100s it seems.

We also have 2 small fig trees, I noticed two figs that were ready for picking.

There are also lots of areas near our house where there's lots of blackberries so we went and picked some. I remember when I was a kid, our family and another two close families would all go with tubs and pick 100s of wild blackberries. It was fun.

We also had two plum trees, one was a weird kind that we never ate, they seemed to be green plums that were very sour, so we never picked them, That tree was cut down last year, then we had a big plum tree which unfortunately during the last strong winds that hit the UK it lost most of it huge branches and so we'll be cutting that down too. Shame as it had 100s of juicy plums ready for picking, I think my mum managed to pick a few.

Dont think we are some garden nuts, our gardens are over grown, well one of them is, but that doesnt matter to trees. We do have some grape vines that go up the house. We use to have them all around the house, but my mum got fed up with all the work of looking after them and cut them all down without even talking to my dad about it. Luckily she missed one and it still there but we dont really pick them :) Apart from that the only other thing that grows wild that we pick from our gardens is mint and rhubarb.
