I'm down that area though, I've had a wander or two, I like it.
I can just picture myself walking through the Park on a crisp Winter's morning, admiring the Uni... hungover.
That Beanscene is pretty good, they don't give you too much foam on lattes. It's also next to that Jolly Roger pirate shop.
I'm on the south of Kelvingrove, between the Beanscene and Yorkhill... kind of.
I'm moving up the West End.
Sheepy's Shag Pad (I hope)
Still a sponging student?
Other jobs such as engineers also have transferable skills. Gunners etc don't. Well unless you plan on becoming a mercenary that is.
Your length of service, depending on the post, can be as long as 12 years. Great for job security, not so great for wanting to change anything else in your life. And then there's the run of the mill cons like death. I'm not saying I don't like what I do - it certainly has moments of being the best job in the world. But it has to be something you really like the idea of.
My background is actually IT. Four years spent doing computer science at uni had bored me, hence the wanting a job with a bit of excitement. I certainly got it, but who knows where else I could have been. Even if you were to do something like history, there is no guarantee that you would actually use it after graduation. Many many students now go to uni, not for the job prospects, but for the student experience. Having a degree opens up graduate jobs that don't actually need a degree, just the companies want "successful" candidates.
Either do something to make money (accountancy, law etc) or do something you like.
Oh and we are better than the army. I speak from experience :D
