A few days ago was the first anniversary of September the 11th. A dark subject, indeed. But is it darker than the Wars? Maybe so, amybe not, down to personal opinion. I'd say that World War 2 was more gruesome. That has been covered as a game. So, in 10 years can we expect games based on those terrible events? Like, you play as either the Terrorists or a Passenger and must hijack/save the plane? And then you play as a fireman saving lives in the Twin Towers. People, I know what I'm saying is darned disrepectful, but it could be the truth..
they would have been about 2

Indeed you could. Of course, to make the best game possible you would have to discard the instant hatred most of america and the morally minded world would throw at you, and you'd have to avoid getting shot and abandon all ethics and become a social outcast.
If it was worked so that you could play it from both side in two different campaigns, it could be a great game.
The "Western Capitalist Scum" campaign would have you starting as a passenger on a plane, atrying to stop the hijackers. You win by causing the plane to crash into something other than a building full of people or a national monument.
The second level would have you playing a fireman and getting people out of the building as quickly as possible. If a random time until the building falls element was introduced, then it could be quite complex. Do you go up high and work down to get as many people out, or do you get people out from the bottom first incase it falls down on you?
Levels three through 6 would have you at various stages in the Afghanistan "conflict" trying to wipe out the Taliban. And level 7 would have you organising the hunts through caves for last survivors.
Level 8 and above would probably be based around attacking Iraq and might be better with a more RTS style to them than a FPS.
The "Evil Terrorist Murdering *****" Campaign would be similar, but backwards. So crash the plane into the tower, get a member of their terrorist cell out of the country afterwards, kill the foreign devils invading Afghanistan, get OBL into Pakistan and safety, and then try and defend Iraq against invasion without getting nuked.
I think it could sell millions.

How could you possibly make a decent game out of a plane flying into a building? I just can't see where the level concepts are going to come from.
No disrespect.
