Osama bin Laden.

That's what a couple are trying to name their child but are being refused CNN says. Take a look...


"BERLIN, Germany -- A Turkish couple living in Germany who want to call their child Osama bin Laden have been refused permission by German officials but are to appeal to a judge.

Names can only be registered in Germany if they fulfil certain criteria. A name must clearly identify the child's gender and must not ridicule the child or be offensive.

'Hitler' is banned as a name for that reason"

I thought it was illegal to name your child something which doesn't already exist in Germany, ie you can call your kid Martin but not Shaggy-Shabba-Doo

Bleh. You must be a bit strange to want to name your child after a terrorist who is probably the most hated figure in a large portion of the world...

Should it be allowed or not? Well, I think parents should be able to call their children what they like (within reason... like you can't exactly call your child '$h*tface' or 'Nobrains' or something...) but I'm not sure in this case naming the child after such a hated figure wouldn't breach the little babies human rights... I mean the parents can whinge over their rights, but it's the baby that has to bear the name...

My opinion is you should be able to call your kid whatever you want. But calling a kid osama bin laden is just cruel. Especially as he/she doesn't get a say in it. How will they feel growing up with that name?

I say mister and missus turk (no offence intended, but no name was supplied) need a swift talking to, with maybe a severe shouting at, and perhaps a wedgie later on.
