The new game ,from Team Soho and Sony, looks to be a great rival of GTA3. There are no "please wait: Loading" screens wen you walk into buildings or from completing a level to the mid-level cut-scene. Also there are no health bars or arrows to follow, you just have to look at how your character is walking to see how hurt he is and your car will indicate for when you should take a corner.
You play a character called mark Hammond who (in the first cut-scene) sees his wife murdered and son kidnapped. A lot of swear words and a car chase through your whole scenery, london, later(which you control) you are flowing through missions to find and get your kid back. You can also take a hostage and just cause havoc but the traffic may get you whilst being chased by the metropolitan police; it depends on the time of day.
The Team Soho production staff have been around london and have done their research because people who live in the city will recognize the backstreets asell as oxford street shops, like Marks & Spencer or HMV.
Because of the no load free flow gameplay, it comes out as an interactive movie and looks great aswell.
I can't wait to get it and i think it could also knock medal of honour Frontline off the topspot.
It comes out around Christmas.

P.S. all the cars you could want in london.

cheers :D

I think The Getaway will be a GTA 3 beater. But not a Vice City beater.

If you look at the screenshots of Vice City you will see what i mean.

even if you do, you have to wait to get it where in other you can n e way

"Sony today admitted that The Getaway, the jewel in the crown of its European PlayStation 2 development arm, has cost at least £5 million so far. While rumour suggests the actual figure is far higher - some estimates put it at well over £10 million - the official line still makes The Getaway far and away the most expensive game ever made in Europe."

There's no way this is going to beat GTA3. In the demo video the graphics don't look any better than something like Max Payne... it's linear and mission based so it'll be pretty short as well. I'm thinking they've basically remade Driver but with Tomb Raider style bits and swearing.

I'm not impressed so far.

Well yes it is motion captured. They took pictures of all the London area, the backstreets aswell. All the characters are based on real people, most of the mobs and no so important characters are on the designers them selves. They even have sleepin bags in the office because they are working so hard. Anything else?
