Basically, I've got two computers here and want to create a direct connection between the two.

I havn't got any network cables and all I got is two ISDN lines!

Is there a way, or a program I can download so that I can make a nice long connection between them?

I want to play Red Alert 2 against the computer next to me, and this is the only way that might work!

Need help quick!

Save me!

why these numbers? can't you use 0.0.0.1 & 0.0.0.2 ?

Heh, I know what a router is :p
but I meant £50 from Novatech.

it is easier and better to buy x over cables than it is to get a

does seem like a bit ofa waste of time when you could just buy a CAT5 cable althogh, they're pretty expensive, i'm guessing you could save yourself a few pounds by doing it yourself, if your that tight ;) or..if you buy the wrong cable to start with :D

I did that, except I used a soldering iron and heatshrink, so it's not really a bodge.

GAMER NETWORK KIT PCI / UTP NETWORK KIT FOR TWO PCs. • Complete package to network two PC’s for head-to-head game play or Windows and Unix networking • Comprises 2 x 10/100 PCI network cards • 1 x 8 metre CAT 5 UTP cable supplied (extra cables GG8619) • Includes software and manual.

Thats exactly what you need sorry i thought you baught the USB-USB kit, that kit has everything you need in it, installing it may be a problem it is hardly ever "PLUG AND PLAY" Windows XP is great for setting up all sorts of networks and internet connection sharing.

But if you need to set up pc's manually then use these ip addresses

comp 1 192.168.0.1
comp 2 192.168.0.2

You don't actually need crossover, you can do what I did and get a bit of normal CAT5 and rewire it :-)

all you need for linking 2 PCs up is a crossover cable (CAT5) and 2 network Interface cards (installed into your PCs)

any more PCs and you'll need a router (which also shares the internet) which will cost around £40 for a 4x 10/100Mb/s I saw a 16x 10/100Mb/s hub the other day though for £89, i'm tempted to buy it although i'd probably never have 16 PCs connected to it.

So something like this...

GAMER NETWORK KIT PCI / UTP NETWORK KIT FOR TWO PCs. • Complete package to network two PC’s for head-to-head game play or Windows and Unix networking • Comprises 2 x 10/100 PCI network cards • 1 x 8 metre CAT 5 UTP cable supplied (extra cables GG8619) • Includes software and manual.

Is no good?

All we need it for is to play games against eachother!

Don't need to share the internet or anything...

True the max speed of USB-USB is 12mbps but it all depends on what games they want to play, and the SR USB-USB kit is easy to install and it's "EXTERNAL" so then they won't have to mess around inside their computers blowing stuff up, and also they don't have to mess with all this Ip addressing polava.

Also they can create internet connection sharing and both use the ISDN which if it is using 2 lines then it will be 128K.

Basically what i am saying is it is so much easier to use the USB-USB than it is to set up a peer to peer LAN, got to remember Turbonutter not everyone know about computers.

Argh! Don't bother with USB to USB kits! They're a pain, are more epxensive than 2 100mbit networks cards and a few metres of crossover, and your pings will me much worse!
