Think about it, it could be absolutely wicked, especially withtoday's graphical effects generating a real-time fire, spreading or dwindling according to your actions. Done properly, it could be ace. Make it an action-type game though, not Sim Fire Fighter or something equally godawful.

You know, there was an ambulence sim in the arcades. Sega was going to put it in a compilation with a safari game on the Dreamcast, but I never heard anything more on it...

Burning Rangers was excellent. I'm tracking down another copy soon, but it was not actually a fire fighting simulator as such. It was set in the future and had lots of storylines about talking whales and giant mutant plants (the 'boss' character on the first main level).
Great game though and one of the many worth investing in a Saturn for, if you can get a cheap one.
I Body Harvest on the N64 there were mission where you had to rid buildings of their flames, it was quite fun stealing a fire engine then going to save all those helpless civilians from their burning homes.
All like you said too, just not in as much detail, the fire would spread and it was all in action too it's just that you also had to kill huge killer bugs things too so it wasn't so much Fireman Sam and frieds.
Nah, I don't think it will work too well, maybe a crappy sim game where you get to own the Fire Station and you work it like that?

There was that game (I can't remember it's name) about that guy (Can't remember his name either) who has to put out fires. It was a kinda platform game on PSone...
