I have just got a labtop, its is second hand but is fairly new. it came with no programs on it (ie windows). I have put my windows cd in but it does nothing. the picture on the screen shows insert and floppy disk, i didn't know you could windows on floppy, any help, i can get to a dos window if they can do anything.

any suggestions how to get windows installed

If you can get to a dos window then type

C:/>D:\setup

Hit enter

(D = cdrom drive letter)
(C = hard drive letter, but could be A:/>)

You BIOS isn't booting the CD. Either try and enable booting from CD (hit del at startup) ir get something that will boot the CD.

I copied that straight from my Win98 manual, I then checked it manually.
the tab is at the top, the right one.

i have phoned my brother and he says he cannot find the start up tab, is he being stupid or have u made a mistake

I think that you need a startup disk, I'm 99% sure of that.

Just try typing D:/setup.exe on the dos screen, if that doesn't work, then you need a startup disk.

Thanks i'll try that later when i get home, anyone got any other suggestions while i dont have a spare floppy disk

You need to insert a 'startup' disk, then reset and it will give you the commands to install your CD, should be pretty simple with a CD.

To Create a startup disk:

start menu > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

click the Starup disk tab then click 'Create Disk'

yeah it has a manual but i just says insert the cd and retatrt, when i do that its says insert a floppy disc
