Hey, my Mum keeps shuttig down my computer in the morning because of the noise it makes, even though I am doing everything I can to quieten it. I have just spent £20 on a Papst silent fan FFS, so I'm not happy about her constantly turning this off at all.

Can anyone think of any steps I can take?

Asking her not to will just make it worse. I know my mother.

Put naked ladies on your screen saver and she wont go near it.

Other than that just ask her to leave it on for the reasons why you wish it to be on.

True. Seems like hassle though. I'll do it if I can't find a way that is less of a hack.

Rob... I use a different Logon screen in XP (Andi's FBI one) and there's no power option on it?

Actually.. it's hidden in the btm left corner, but you can't see it unless you go a hunting with the mouse. i assume who ever created the FBI screen replaced the button with a black image and used black text so it isn't visible. If this is the case, you should be able to Mod the XP screen you use?

No, you can't.

I use TweakUI too, but I can't see an option.

Well, I am experienced with WinKey+L, which displays the login screen (but still leaves processes running), but the "Turn off Rar" button is still in the bottom left. What about locking it?

Not wanting to state the obvious, but how about logging out the machine or locking it? That's how we do it at work and only leaves her witht he power button which your absolutley shure she won't use?

Erm, nob off.

1. She would never turn off this machine at the mains. She knows what can happen and she knows what will happen if it does.

2. Computers use more electricity whlie powering up, and repeated power cycles reduce the life of components.

3. The idea that this machine isn't doing anything while I'm not sitting at it is ludicrous.

4. It's my computer. I don't mind the noise. I spent money on it to reduce this noise - so she doesn't turn it off - and she still does. I don't want her to. Simple.

So, can anyone think of any way? Please? I don't want to turn this into a moral argument.
