Ok, the Notable Elections aren't far away and it would be nice to have someone loyal to Nintendo as the next Notable (and I don't necessarily mean a biased little fanboy who just loves the name Nintendo).

Obviously, I'm going to ask you to vote myself, but if you don't want to (for whatever reasons) then consider Dringo, Cooky, Cookie Monster (and if you want to add yourself to the list, do so in replies if I've missed you out).

So, vote Nintendo :)

Note, all characters used in my hypothetical example were purely fictional and any likenesses to real people are purely coincidental ;-)

Anyway, the PS2 forum all did the tactical voting and got Pro Evo, by far one of the notables who gets most criticism, not least because he is extremely forum specific, rather than being seen in a variety of forums. I'd rather we had someone who disliked Nintendo as notable than get someone that only the Nintendo forum think is notable worthy while other forums don't think they are worthy. Sure, you're never going to please everyone, and if you can honestly say you think Pro Evo deserves to be a notable, then go ahead and vote tactically, because that's how he got in. I have seen what the tactical voting on the part of some sony forum users gave us. And I'd prefer to vote for the person I want.

Actually, sibs makes a good argument against forum-specifics there (i'd not seen that when i started :^) ).

And yeah, it was only ever meant to be a bit of fun. Shame we (all forum members) all had to spoil it :^)

They may be. But in fairness probably won't. Sure, you'll never *know* how things would otherwise have gone, at least not until it's too late, but you've got to go with your best chance.

Sure, maybe everyone voting for cooky would have denied edgy a place, but it'll always be more likely that if everyone did their own thing, neither would win and some chimp who we barely know would win it, and the whole notability thing would have been a meaningless waste of time.

But i'd have to agree, i think forum notables would be better. If it was workable anyway.

Better still, everyone had a 'main' forum selected with their registration details, and they could be elected as notable only by people with the same 'main' forum.
And there would be one or two notables for each forum, voting one in each time, and you'd only stay for 2 'terms' (ie, you'd still be notable after the next election, but replaced by the winner of the one after that (unless you won again) ). Wouldn't be any point having a notable for some of the minor forums, but if sr selected only the forums that get any real use to have notables...

Actually, i think that's be pretty good. If sr were bothered to set it up. It'd keep the forums from having too many notables too.

But that'd just promote people to only post in one forum... the people who would be notables then would be people who are in one forum a lot, rather than people who visit a variety of forums and so spend less time in each one... forum specific notables could be good, but don't do away with the normal notables in favour of them... Plus forum specific notables seems to be taking it a bit far for something started as a bit of fun...

But doc Duck, the thing is how do you know this or that person wouldn't have got voted in if the Sony/Ninty/Xbox etc. forum didn't all decide on 'their' notable? I mean, say we all decided to vote, say Cooky. He got all our votes because most people in this forum said they wanted him, and the rest of us didn't want to 'waste' our vote. But someone else, say Edgy came second and didn't become a notable. He lost by a few votes. Now Cooky would have got in because most of the Ninty forum voted for him. Edgy would have got votes from lots of other people, from FOG chat and prime maybe, and other forums... And a few of us who voted Cooky would have maybe voted Edgy if we hadn't voted tactically.

Thing is you can never tell who you are 'wasting' a vote on... people may be more popular (and fairly popular, not because one forum decides they need 'their' notable) than you think, and unless you wait till almost the end of voting and count up all the votes, you can't tell who a vote would be 'wasted' on anyway. I still say vote for who you think is best. They may be more popular than you think...

I don't think so. There are lots of people in the forum who are as deserving of notability as several current ones, and notables mean very little if you never see them.

Provided everyone who votes thinks whoever is chosen *does* deserve notability (even if not quite so much as someone else), then i think the point of voting for them is still in tact.

And surely there's more point in voting your support for someone who has a chance to become notable, than wasting your vote just to give someone else a mention. So long as you honestly believe they should be notable.

Cooky, dringo, cookie monster, strafex, sibs and others. I for one could happily vote for any one of them believing they deserve to be a notable.
Thus i really don't think it defeats the point.
