The other day I was discussing with someone on here (Think it was Shocky but just in case it wasn’t I’ll leave it as “someone”) about getting an X-box. He replied; “I can’t believe it, Dringo the mighty Nintendo fan talking about getting an X-box”, with the questioned loyalty I shook such a thought out of my head and decided to move on to Doshin the Giant. But this isn’t the first (and it won’t be the last) time I was swayed by the X-box, in fact a total of 3 times had me try and claw a way of getting Microsoft’s black kit, and now with SR selling The X-box with Halo for a measly £209.99 I was VERY tempted (can you do a similar deal around Christmas do you think?). Why shouldn’t I get an X-box? True my obsession and seemingly unshakable loyalty to the longest running console manufacturer in the industry will be tarnished (yep that’s right I’m proud of it) but are really X-box the bad guys? I mean is the X-box really a result of money hungry Microsoft employees trying to destroy another industry, well no the fact is the X-box is being outsold by Nintendo, they are making a loss with every console sold and they say they won’t make a profit on it by 2006 but by then wouldn’t a successor the X-box be out? Have Microsoft for the first time really made a mess of things or are they here for a different reason? Yep you can tell I’m thinking of a different reason, that reason is to destroy Sony’s Playstation franchise.

Consoles are for Children through to Teenagers, any older and you’re not really interested, it is sad but most of you reading this now will probably give up gaming all together come 20 odd. Of course many adults do play games but the violent games are aimed at Teenagers so they can look at them and go “cool” and the rest are made for Children or sport nuts. The Gamecube isn’t a children’s console, but it does stick itself in the age bracket of 3-20 year olds, the ages where most gamers can be found, so why is it Sony and Microsoft aim at the 16-26 year old age bracket and still sell loads? It’s all to do with hardware, the PS1 was a games console, but the ability to play music CD’s as well probably swayed a good few older music fans of returning to gaming, mixed with more “mature” or “realistic” games it was a dawn of a new era, yet the dawn of the next era was very close indeed, it was with the death of SEGA’s console reign. After the Dreamcast failed to the seemingly unstoppable killing machine that was the PS2, Sony realized they could dabble in further areas of the industry. Nintendo were a mere piece of gum on the PS2’s shoe at the time and with no apparent opposition, Sony began to make the PS2 appeal to the older gamers, the 30 plus people by not changing anything regarding gaming. So imagine you’re a parent, your kids want a games console, and you see one in the shop that happens to have an in-built DVD player, why now the children can play the games and you can watch those awesome DVD movies.

People claimed the PS2 was falling into a trap of becoming a dumbed down PC, wrong it wasn’t falling into a trap this was deliberate. Nintendo always used to claim themselves as a family computer, this is utter rubbish as few 30-year olds play games (regularly) and so yes Nintendo have made a family “friendly” image but hardly an all round system for the family. The PS2 had meanwhile, the parents can watch the DVD films and the Children can play the games yes but then add a operating system in the form of Linux, a Hard drive, Internet access, a few further PC accessories like a mouse and you have your own portable PC for such a small price in comparison to an actual PC. A family unit all round was made and so many new opportunities arise in social segments, in business areas and of course Entertainment. Nintendo have no interest in developing down these aisles, Internet would only be developed by Nintendo for the use of games not for anything more, after all Nintendo push the fact across “THIS IS A GAMES CONSOLE”. Now naturally the fact the PS2 is descending in such varied sections of the industry will annoy at least a few different companies, I’m putting money on Phillips and other DVD player manufacturers not being too pleased with the PS2. Yet what can Phillip’s do about it? To bring down the PS2 they would need to enter as many markets as Sony including the game one which they have visited before and failed miserably. Panasonic are making small pot shots at Sony by signing with Nintendo, changing Nintendo’s console into one resembling Sony’s. Nevertheless no company would be as worried as Microsoft, a portable PC? Sony was the biggest threat to Microsoft since… well EVER, and the only way Microsoft could deal with it was to bring down the Playstation.

An opportunity arises where Microsoft can enter a new market, getting a foot into one of the fastest expanding industries around as well as putting a stop to this 30 million + selling threat. And so here we are today, and have Microsoft failed in their attempt to crush Sony? No they haven’t they may have only sold 3.8 million consoles worldwide so far (Gamecube has sold 4.8) but when a parent decides on a console and is tempted by the family computer idea who will they turn to now? A computer that boasts better specs, a DVD player built in, a hard drive built in, Internet from the box, Direct X tools… why it offers MORE than the PS2 and straight from the box for the SAME price. You are witnessing the downfall of the biggest selling games console, SEGA were here once remember. So what of Nintendo? Well the X-box has made the next fight much closer, next time the name “Playstation” isn’t going to sell Sony’s third beast and Microsoft are making it harder and harder for Sony by wearing away at them, and soon enough like many before, Sony may not survive, after all PS2 sales have dropped dramatically since the release of the X-box (not Gamecube) mainly because they are competing for the same turf.

And how does this help Nintendo? Well with Microsoft keeping Sony busy with the battle of the PC, Nintendo are increasing it’s sales (the pressure has been properly lifted after the N64 struggle), increasing it’s third party support, increasing its exclusive titles, increasing its adult demographic and most of all increasing it’s dwindled levels of respect. After Microsoft finally has Sony beat (be it out of pure resilience money wise or not), Nintendo will be sitting there ruling the section of the market, which is just about the gaming. Consumers will have the choice, go for Nintendo’s cheap games console or Microsoft’s expensive multi-system console, and no amount of advertisement will really have much effect, if its just a games console you’re after then Nintendo is the way to go but if you are after something for all the family then go get that Z-box. At the moment Sony have gone on to fight the war with Microsoft and SEGA have said their final farewells, Nintendo are now controlling a segment of the market no one is threatening.

So now can I buy an X-box?

Not really, most consoles have loadsa sequels, even the Gamecube, Gamecube and xbox have the most origanal games coming out (and already out) and i feel the PS2 just has loads of games that are just meer updates, Take GTA3 for example, yes its fun, yes its got good graphics, but its virtually the same gameplay as GTA and GTA2 just in 3D.

You didn't read what I originally put though.

I do agree with you. However, multi-format games do take a longer time to be released on the XBox, which is a downfall. Meh, there is no point arguing, I will come running to the XBox forum as soon as Microsoft release news on the smaller version. Will love to hear you opinion on that.

:) Now then. Metroid will be better than Halo.

Jokes.

But that is your answer to everything, the whole world is just one big joke, I haven't seen one post that has ever gone like that and I don't think I will!

Er-no, everything I have ever said to you all you hace come back with is another excuse. For example:

er-no wrote:
>If you read what I said then you wouldn't be trying to stand so high and >mighty on that throne of yours. Max Payne was originally coded for the >PC. Then it was ported to the PS2 and then the XBox. I said if the >original game was coded a specific console it would most probably run >best on that console (if the other versions were ports).

>Also, most of the games you mentioned. With the exception of THPS3 are in >my opinion complete crap. Especially Spiderman.

You know full well that I meant Multi-format games, I didn't even mention ports! Max Payne was ported to the Xbox, but the ones I wanted you to pay attention to were the ones that were on the Xbox and GameCube. You then go onto say that all the games I listed were utter crap, you tell me one multi-format game/port thats is on both the Xbox and GameCube and I will find you the evidence that explains why the Xbox has the stronger version, I can guarantee you that 9 times out of 10 (the other 1 being a report from a Nintendo magazine) that the independant sites/magazines will say that the Xbox has the best multi-format games. Don't complicate things by changing what you *think* I put becuase I clearly said that the Xbox had the best multi-format games and from the *EVIDENCE* I gave I think that it proves what I originally said.

This post will contain my 100,000 word, what a shame it is wasted in an argument! :(

Here is a response from certain X-box fans that I have noticed:

Gamer: "I'm not a fan of the X-box"

Certain X-box fan: "Fan boy"

Gamer: I do like Halo but the Perfect Dark series has impressed me far more and Metroid Prime looks much better.

Certain X-box fan: "Fan boy"

Gamer: "Dead or Alive is far too short, I'm not a fan of racers and Halo really is the major tempting factor for me"

Certain X-box fan: "Fan boy"

Gamer: "X-box isn't doing to well in salesand I'm not keen on getting a £200 console that might not last long"

Certain X-box fan: "Fan boy, it's all about the sales isn't it, just because it isn't doing well it is therefore crap, just because it isn't selling well doesn't mean it isn't any good"

Gamer: "As much as Jet Set Radio, Halo etc... tempt me Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Starfox, Resident Evil etc... is why I play games."

Certain X-box fan: "Fan boy"

Anymore you think I missed?

Have I ever done that no. What I do when people ask me about the consoles is tell the truth. Honestly. What has the best games this Christmas. Is the GameCube. That is without a shadow of a doubt true. Look no bloody further than Eternal Darkness for probably my most favorite game ever, SO involving.

Anyways, I don't ever mention any of the points you typed above. I tell the truth. If someone wants a shooter, I sell them an XBox, if someone wants value for money and great games I sell them a GC. If someone wants a DVD player and quality games. I sell them a PS2.

Simple. Now shutup.

Nope but poor sales means lower price so we can actually afford one as well as a Gamecube.

The fact that Mario is the greatest Platformer in the world swayed me, tonnes of people loved Mario when they were younger and I think you'll find it will sell just as well.

Come on Resident Evil in itself is a 6 game series hardly one single game, not including the great sounding asylum and the worlds greatest Eternal Darkness. I was tempted by X-box and so I did a little research and uncovered litle gems, if someone see's halo as a cool game well lets see if any other good games are about. You looked at Resi as it seems to me you prefer the adult orientated adventures as opposed to incredible fin games aka Mario so why not research the tonne of adult adventures coming to cube?

Hard drive and Internet comes as later add on, as said in my post the X-box had them out of the box so it could become a family unit, Gamecube is a games console... what is the need for the hard drive and internet? it is neccessary for gaming and only increases the price so an add on will do.

Nintendo are better but it doesn't mean X-box is crap :)

True but Nintendo make far more of an art outta it.

Thats my problem, the exciting future releases for me on the X-box look like sequels.

You NONSE! :-D

I replied to ridicule that pathetic Xbox fanboy who said the only reason the Gamecube outsold the Xbox was because the Gamecube bribed people to go into the Xbox forums and diss it.

And because you'd said not to post in here, I put in that little light hearted joke at the end that seems to have gotten you so worked up...

Ok, you can pop a post in the Ninty forum if you want. :-)

It's not actually like that.
People who have gotten used to this forum take comments like mine lightly.
Like Sibs said, if you're going to blow a fuse with me, I'd hate to think what you'd done if someone had REALLY criticized the console.

Yes. These forums have idiots. Get used to it.
And it's not just the Xbox forum.
We've had plenty of Xbox/PS2 fans in our forum coming up with things like:

"wot age r u all still playing on ur 5 year old kiddie pokemons toys!!!! hahahahaha!!!!! grow up and get urself a real games console for adults!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Ironically, these so called grown up gamers type like 5 year olds...

You also find them in the PS2 forum.
They're everywhere. Ignor them or ridicule and pantronise them, but don't get worked up else you'll probably just make a fool out of yourself.

Like I said, the Nintendo forum gets it's fair share of idiot fanboys from other forums. Get used to it.

I didn't say it was the only good game, I said it's the only game that makes me want an Xbox. Yes, there are other good games for it but either they don't suit me, or I can find a suitable alternative on the Gamecube.

Even Halo will become less appealing as the GC FPS games start rolling into town.

> Please don't reply with yet another "Garbe chill out" post

Sorry, but it had to be said.

I think after all that The Xbox

The Xbox forum deserves no better than any other.
EVERY forum gets it's fair share of fanboys.
I don't hear anyone else kicking up a fuss...

I'd read your posts and write a more in depth reply but to be honest I can't arsed, you guys need to stop taking stuff so personally.

No one's being biased, it's a completly non biased topic as far as I can see. You guys seem to think that as soon as someone criticises the Xbox then they're being biased.

Anyway if you want to write a long reply to this then go ahead you wont find many people reading it cause these arguments are getting very boring.

You like Xbox I like Gamecube, if I criticise Xbox it's for a reason, surely you can defend your console without getting angry and calling everyone biased?

Oh and that doesn't mean quoting a list of games.
