With sales figures released last week of the Nintendo Gamecube in Europe from "Release day, to now", it really puts into contrast of how the X-box is fairing here in this continent.
Consider this, as from last week, the Nintendo Gamecube in Europe has managed to sell a pretty impressive: 1 MILLION UNITS!, the X-Box however till now, has managed to shift just under 500-000 units....And... that particular console was released 3 MONTHS before the Gamecube, it had a headstart.
Up against the popularity of the Gamecube, the X-Box has failed.
But yet, that is just Europe (The biggest gaming area in the world). What about Japan?
In Japan we are getting sales figures fluctuating around the 4000 mark or lower-per-week for X-Box, the Gamecube is sitting around the 20,000 mark per week and the mightey Sony PS2 and Nintendo GBA is sitting around the 30,000 mark. The X-box seems far behind.
Now where does this leave the console? Yes, as I've already mentioned, the console is successful in the U.S.A, but being successful in just one market isn't enough, you need to have considerable success all over the world- The X-Box, so far isn't that.
With the upcoming releases of Final Fantasy XI (And other Quirkey but massively successful Japanese RPG's) for PS2 and the Releases of Zelda, Mario, Metroid and the Resident Evil exclusives for the Gamecube the future of the X-Box is looking ever more grim. With titles like that, it would ensure more PS2's and GC's being sold and the X-Box left in the lurch even more-so.
But really what can be done?
'There are' wonderful games for it, there are wonderful games in development too, but in reality it all smells of another Dreamcast to me. A wonderful system being trodden into the ground from two Behemoths of gaming.
The Dreamcast was a stunner of a console, in fact I would go as far to say that it was my favourite console after the Super Nintendo (Skies of Arcadia anyone?), but it didn't matter in the end what I or any one else though how great it was, what happened was the abandonment of the hardware and with the X-Box, the same is possible... very possible.
To me, the situation that Microsoft's beauty (Yes I'll call it a Beauty)is in is all too familiar.
Over the past month or so I hoped I was wrong, but now I know I'm not. I've seen enough from the consoles release to now to convince me that the console is shaping its future to abscurity. Dreamcast style.
The X-Box is Doomed.
But then again, Digi also said that Super Smash Brothers Melee was a shallow button bashing experience...

Look, all this doesn't matter at all. At the end of the day the Gamecube is outstripping the X-Box in sales in America a console roughly the same age. I'll not even mention the Europe situation when the Gamecube is three months younger, or Japan. And-I'll not even mention the power of the PS2 sales!
I saw all this with the Dreamcast, great games like the X-Box, great console like the X-Box (I love the X-Box and Dreamcast)....but where is the Dreamcast now?
I'm only stating the truth, don't get upset about it. At-least, being an X-Box owner such as myself, i've the nerve to tell the truth. But yet, that could be something to do with me not being a 'Fan-Boy Zealot'.

As i've said...I already have an X-Box. And I have a PS2 and a GC and most other important consoles before this generation. I also have a respectable number of games for each-Big Deal.
And as for this post being silly, exactly how is it silly when it is providing a worthwhile discussion, when people are replying to the truth?!
Who cares about staring at sales figures anyway, its not that much of a big deal.
Don't you have anything better to do? I'd Rather be playing games then searching the interent for sales figures..........
Although people have heard of it, nobody will want a gme from a TV show as they usually are crap...
People will not buy the game for this reason...
Easy...
I don't care if the game will be good, people will not be too happy to buy it because they usually are crap!
For the past 3 months the Xbox has topped the chart with scores ranging between 7.0 - 7.3 in 2nd is the GameCube with Scores ranging from 5.8 - 6.2 and then the PS2 is in last with scoes ranging from 4.2 - 5.3
Whether you take that seriously or not it is up to you but so far Microsoft are scoring higher on average games scores, not only that but they are way ahead of the GameCube for games which score between 90% - 100% and they are nearly up with the PS2 on benchmark titles! People are over-looking what the Xbox can do too easily. You may find it hard to believe but I was more anti-Xbox than most people who visit these froums, thats why I got a PS2. After realising exactly what the Xbox could/can do I got rid of my very mediocre PS2 and purchased an Xbox, rever since then I haven't regreted it once.
Instead of doing silly posts like this and talking about what the Xbox *CAN'T* do go out and see for yourself the true power of this console, I can almost guarantee you *WON'T* be disappointed! More and more people are starting to realise what the Xbox can do, put your thoughts aside becuase I know for sure that in 1 years time you will all be saying:
Wow look at this game I got for my Xbox!
ps. My release list so far has been going from the start and so far it has produced some great games. I know its become a world-wide trate of *Garbe's list* but it is a great looking list! :) Phi11ip, what games haven't you heard of? I will explain if you are unsure.
Anyway, the console isn't doing as well as it was expected, the early stereotypes are showing. People didn't buy it for this reason, or that one and it has suffered from that.
XboX live means nothing at the moment, although it will be great to have an online console, only people who can afford the £360 a year to give the console online capabilities will be able to use it.
garbes list of great games is hardly going to make poeple rush to buy a console, although there will be some great games to buy, the list has some strange names that have never been heard before and people are not going to rush out to buy a console for a random name. There are though a few well known names that may convince people.
With Nintendo releasing a new Mario game, the public will hear that there is a new game and that it will be amazing. Being a well know name it will sell because people have heard of it, that being another reason why the XBOX is unpopular, it's new. People don't like new things that they havn't seen, they would rather go with a company that have got respect for and know are good.
Microsoft NEED to prove to people that they console it good, not just let people look at it because most people will turn a blind eye to it. Shoving it in their face might help, maybe giving everybody a nice little demo through the post so that they can see what games are like before investing in the console.
I AM NOT SAYING THAT XBOX WILL FAIL! DON'T TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY!
They have got off to a bad start and really need to prove themselves....
