Hi, I've been talking in the X-Box forum for a good few weeks now and you're probably thinking "What's a Ninty doing in my forum? Jeeves, release the hounds!" or.. er.. something along those lines. The reason is, I'm soon going to add The X-Box to my ever growing collection of consoles.

Now, I'm going to get it off Special Reserve, and this is what I think I'll get.

1: - X-Box Console, Official Controller, SCART Lead and Halo - £209.99
2: - Extra Official Controller - £22.99
3: - Wreckless - £24.99
----------
TOTAL: - £257.97

Now, I'm lucky enough to have a brother who will willingly pay half of the price, leaving me only having to pay around £130.00.

However, I am having second thoughts (and this is where you X-Box fanatics can really sing Microsoft's praises). These are the questions I'd like answered, if you'd be so kind:

1: - Am I making the right choice with what I'm buying?
2: - What (bar Halo and Wreckless) good games are there out on X-Box?
3: - What good games are there to come on X-Box?
4: - What does the future hold (in terms of internet, etc)?
5: - How can I convince my parents another console is a worthy purchase?

Of course, I'll be reading up on this in magazines and on the internet, but after chatting in here for a while, it seems like there are a lot of people with a lot of knowledge so I'd be interested to hear some reccommendations, etc.

Thanks,
Maverick42.

Sorry, that was just my pathetic attempt at a joke.

On Wreckless: once you realize how shallow the gameplay is, the first instinct is to think "this is crap" and get rid of it.
But I must say that I keep my copy because it's the kind of game that if I'm not in the mood for anything too serious and deep, I can just put Wreckless on and it's always fun - a bit like Crazy Taxi in many ways.

I've reviewed Wreckless on this site as fairly is I could.

There seems to be some confusion - my friends who recommended Wreckless don't actually have it, they've just played most X-Box games as they too are getting one. SR says it's a must have game and worth getting an X-Box for but I'll read some more reviews.

What do you mean, money back after a year?

> 1: - Am I making the right choice with what I'm buying?

I like Wreckless but only in a superficial way. The graphics have to seen to be believed. It's good for blasting through a missions then sitting back and watching the crazy replays. Decent value for 24.99.

Jet Set Radio Future, Oddworld: Munchs Oddysee, Project Gotham Racing, Max Payne, Enclave - these are my favourites.

I think garbe has listed most of them, but don't forget about BLINX - this is going to be very original.

XBOX Live blah, blah, blah.

I think he is already getting an Extra Controller, at the top Maverick42 lists Wreckless seperatley to the Extra Controller. I agree though , he should save up and get a top end game that will keep him happy for quite a while, his best bet is to pick up Project Gotham Racing instead as I am sure that he will play that for months and months, JSRF and Amped are also great alternatives but I would go with PGR!

Well for £25 I suppose it is worth it. I have played the demo of it and I thought it was quite good, fast great looking wreak em up though I don't understand why you can't borrow it off a friend.

I do advise you to get a second game for the system because it is always nice to have an alternative game to play. If you want one that i'll last a while and is value for money, I would chose amped, it a classy snowboarding game similar to Tony Hawks.

Oh and that extra £25 could be used to get an aditional controller for co-operative Halo between you and your brother.

But just think, £24.99 could go towards a top end game or maybe a DVD to play on your Xbox. Personally I would rent the game and save the £25 for something like Project Gotham Racing, RalliSport, JSRF, Max Payne or one of the other top games on the list. You could look upon it as losing £25 or gaining a great game, personally I would look some-where in between that statement but that doesn't mean I want to buy Wreckless becuase I don't. If I was you I would save you money and get either:

A top end game
DVD
DVD Playback Kit

That is what I would do if I was you, after all when you get Halo you won't have time to play anything else and by the time you have finished playing it (if you ever do) you will have enough saved up to get one of the better games on the market. It was just a thought but I would save your money for now and wait for something that you really want. Do the best thing, rent if you are unsure and only buy the games you are 100% sure about.

Thanks for the replies guys - it's very much appreciated. I'll remove Wreckless from my list and just get Halo. Is Wreckless worth it for £24.99 though?

No Doubt, I traded in my PSone and used a bit of saved cash to buy my xbox and i have never regretted it since. Halo is a must purchase, i just completed it on normal mode last night, and i thought it was absolutley awesome. Not sure about wreckless though, never played it mind, still i'd rent it first.

Good job you got a scart-compatible TV i had to go out and buy an RF lead for mine :-)

Jet Set Radio Future, Project Gotham Racing, Oddworld Munches Oddysee, Spiderman, Hunter the reckoning - Theres loads! Then theres are few crap games but nearly all consoles have a selection of crap games.

Ok, I think garbe has answered the question on this one, buy a mag to find out more.

Garbe has answered this question well aswell

1: - Am I making the right choice with what I'm buying?

Rallisport Challange would be a better buy than Wreakless in my view. Both look jaw dropping, but Rallisport is much more fun. You say your friends have wreakless, why don't you just borrow it off them.

And you lucky that your bros paying half of it. I had to pay for it all yet my brother plays it just as much as me!

2: - What (bar Halo and Wreckless) good games are there out on X-Box?

Jetsetradio Future, Dead Or alive3, Amped, Max Payne, Project gotham racing, Rallisport, FIFA, Munch Oddessy, TH3, Champinship Manager, SSX tricky, +more

3: - What good games are there to come on X-Box?

Loads, all in garbes list are looking great. Read up on them a bit and you will see. (splinter cell + MGS substance will be out on Xbox months before they are out on PS2.)

4: - What does the future hold (in terms of internet, etc)?

Xbox games should look better than games on other consoles. The xbox graphics chip is programable meaning that improved effect can be made compatable with the machine. In theory any fancy effect can be done on xbox.

Xbox Live could change the way we play games forever. But, like yoursef, im concerned with how the pricing arangement turn out.

5: - How can I convince my parents another console is a worthy purchase?

Xbox can play DVDs(the player is of higher quality than PS2). It has a hard drive meaning theres no need for memory cards. It has 4 controller ports meaning 4 player Halo deathmatchs will be available without needing to buy a multitap. Broadband enabled meaning when Xbox Live come out you will be able to play online, download new levels and compete in tournaments. Its more powerful than other consoles meaning better graphics. You can save all your favourite music to your xbox and play it as background music to games like amped and PGR.

Oh, and tell them it will keep you quiet for a long time.
