Hello everbody, it's time for phi11ip's daily computer related problem...

Todays problem is the time limit that you get on shareware programs...

Is there any way I can edit the program so that I can turn off or lengthen the time limit that I am given?

There must be a way of playing around with it!

All the good stuff is shareware and I wanna use it!

Thanks, its better than WS_FTP and FTP explorer!

It was really annoying with thouse two, I didn't like the layout but this one is so much easier!

Just to think, I started this thread because I wanted to use CuteFTP without having to sign my life away too them!

Glad I got that now, thanks!

Hm...I'm somewhat reserving judgement, in principle it doesn't sound that bad (especially if they deliver what they promise). Alot of the negative press directed at it seems to be subscribing to the usual outlandish conspiracy theories where they have Bill Gates plotting to take over the world. There seems to be the automatic assumption that the technology will be abused and its uses taken to the extremes. Bill Gates may well be a smart guy but he always gives me the impression he has trouble tying his shoe laces nevermind taking over the world. :)

Have you read about Palladium... Microsoft's new security system that's in development. If it become a reality you can kiss goodbye to OpenSource, Apple and anything else non-microsoft... I think they've definately lost it this time!

Phft, some FTP software and website submission software has been doing that for years.

Plenty of decent free ftp clients about. :)

I use WS_FTP lite personally, does everything I want and if I need/want do ssh transfers I use Secure iXplorer.

OK, I look like a criminal here!

I only wanted to know how to get a good FTP client up as there's nothing that I can use that is realy ~that~ good.

I never copy games but for something that I will rarely use like this the prices are too high!

One of them wanted me to pay $60!

If it was cheaper I would buy...

I really look like a criminal now...

You summed it up quite nicely I think. You're doing it not because its justified or its ok, but because you perceive it as a victimless crime that you can get away with.

Of course theres something wrong, you're not entitled to use that software. :) Just the same as you're not entitled to use the stolen car either.

Anyway, I'm not condemning you for things you may or may not have done. I'm just saying don't justify your actions as being ok or different to stealing other stuff. End of the day, you're taking something you've not paid for, that there is no physical goods involved is irrelevant.

Somehow I think you'll find it increasingly difficult to do it in future anyway, I think the kind of protection windows XP has is just a taster or things to come.

I do see your meaning, that you won't be able to purchase the software anyway, wheather you could get it free or not, so the developers woulldn't be loosing profit as you'd either use it free or not at all. But still, its not entirly honest to take advantage of a free trial by hacking it, is it???

And think, this kind of thing it what could kill of the 'free trial', so if you do use it, don't bost about it or let others have your authorisation code if it is legit.
