There were also a lot more cases of the harddrives that I saw on the internet. But like I said, luckily the store offered to accept it back and give us a different make one, one that was actually more expensive, just for our troubles. I think it was a maxtor.
Whether it was a bad batch, or they're all faulty, I don't know. But either way, there customer service is very bad, and their harddrives are faulty. The one we have now has a three year no quible guarantee, much better.
It's your own risk if you buy one. But I'd check the policy of the place you're getting it from, to see how easy it'd be to return it. I've heard of people stuck with these whining HDDs, as IBM won't take them back until they actually stop working.
Maybe your hdd was faulty Tom? i'll see how it goes anyway...
After that, it went very noisy. Before risking anything else, we backed up the data and took it straight back, where we exchanged it for another make one, I forget the name, but it's the same specs and it works too! Great. Beware, IBM hardrives are crap.
Their customer service is crap too when you want to send it back. We were lucky, the stall we bought it from had had lots of returns and refused to sell any more IBM hardrives. They accepted it straight back, as they were sending the whole batch back to IBM. But I've heard tails where the store refuses to accept it back, and gets them to send it back to IBM. IBM refuse to admit most of them are faulty, and send it straight back!
We've sworn never to buy another one.
:-)
What would you recommend for future reference? :)
