Im a little concerned about the No. 9 Shirt at United. Weve not signed anyone as the fourth striker, after letting Dwight Yorke go.

Can we really risk going into the season with really only 2 recognise strikers and Diego Forlan who is still young and really is for the Future, and needs to improve as the seasons will roll on.

The only othr thing I can think of is that Giggs will be used as the Fourth striker, but although he is a superb player his goal accuracy isnt always the greatest.

Dont get me wrong, Van + Ole are world class, but im just worried if one or both(!) of them get injured or tired even, whose good enough to replace them from our other strikers(?)

am I being to cautious or do you agree?

Fergie said Di Canio wont be the 4th striker to be signed but more or less said he his looking to sign a 4th striker.

Papers seem to think Gudjohnson could be the man.

On another note, did you see Riquelme's debut for Barcalona today?! Oh hell ye. Thahts what i'm talking about! His first goal was a superb strike, absolute top class.

Hell, so good, he made me change my name! :D

I wouldn't want Veron to go anywhere, he's looking excellent in pre seson matches, some of his passes and finishing have been out of this world, I think he's set to have a great season with United after sorting out his Injury problems.

I agree with Solksjaer, Duff would be a perfct partner for Ruud, because we dont neccessarily need a finisher we have them on Ruud + Ole but we need someone who can open up tight defences ala Cantona and I think Duff can certainly do that. The reason I say this is that we failed to open up Bayer Leverkusans and a few other defences etc last season

Duff isn't really a striker and isn't reknowned for scoring goals though. I think that Paulo di Canio would be a good stop gap for Forlan to mature and gain valuable experience off of him. Hernan Jorge Crespo and Claudio Lopez have been mentioned with swap deals for Veron or cut price due to the money Lazio owe United for Stam but the manager Mancini has said that they won't be leaving.

I've got a feeling Forland will start with Ruud this season - untill someone big does come in to take that shirt.

Personally, I think Damien Duff could do the job.
He played there in the World Cup and really help the Irish out in their attacks. Without him, they wouldn't have even got that far!

He's the Ryan Giggs of Ireland.

Yeh I agree with you about the Youth thing, but im saying for the immediate future like in Europe for example, ive heard today that Ruud Van has got a shin injury and may miss some of the Ajax Tournament. However ive seen some reserve games and pre season friendlys and the likes of Kieron Richardson & Ben Muirhead look like stars in the making.

Well, I don't know about Craig Coates, but I think football as a whole needs to make a shift back to home-growing talent as opposed to buying it.

I mean, it's so gay when a team that might have crap training facilities just waits for someone else to expend a load of effort training up a star, and then buys him up. Good teams should be made to earn their talent, not just purchase it.

Is the player Craig Coates any good? I have only seen him on Championship Manager where his stats are vey high and he scores a lot of goals for me.

I don't think a club like Manchester United will ever have to rely on it's youth system to produce their players anymore. They have enough money to purchase whoever they want but are very shrewd by not spending more than they earn and only buying a couple of players each year to not change the team too much.

They could always use some of the strength coming through the youth teams. For less significant cup games at least. Mads Timm is looking to be a decent player, certainly not premiership quality as yet, but he'll certainly suffice for cup games against smaller teams.

I would certainly prefer more talent to come through the youth squads as opposed to forking out millions every season for the latest "in" player. Rio I'll forgive, since Utd's defence was coming to pieces...

They do need at least 4 strikers to rotate for the matches they face in all competitions to avoid a burn out. Nistelrooy almost proved this at the end of last season where he went off the boil due to playing so many games as the lone striker.

Diego Forlan has proved to be of good quality in pre-season friendlies but to succeed they will need another top class striker to take some of the burden of the players.
