Sony scored a big hit with the PS1 and platinum games, which were affordable quality games that had to sell a certain amount to turn platinum, while N64 was still trying to sell cartridges for £64.99 Sony's platinum range came in at £19.99 and proved a big hit.
I am glad to see they are carryiing on the tradition with there PS2 platinum range. I mean lets face it GT3 is a far superior game to Project Gotham and yet it is have the price. They say you have to pay for quality but on this evidence you don't.

Well I'd actually rather play Super Monkey Ball, Pikmin or Rogue Leader over all of those games except Medal of Honour: Frontline, which is going to the Gc anyway.
:-)

But it's not sale figures that make a good game, look at Simpsons Wrestling, that sold loads of copies but was tripe.
But there have been many great games that haven't made the charts.
It's obvious that the majority of games in the all-formats charts will be PS2 ones because there is a bigger PS2 user base, but in terms of quality titles to come, the GC wins hands down.

What's also useless is the £300 price tag, since it doesn't take into account 2 years of inflation.
saying it's around 3.5%
the price is thus:
2000 RRP: £300
2001 RRP: £310.50
2002 RRP: £321.37
So the real term value of the PS2 at launch was in fact £321.37.
Just thought I would point that out...
They are hardly as good as:
MGS2
GTA3
GT3 platinum
Medal of Honour front line
I could go on and on but you would only get jealous.

Ha! You bought a GC, and now you're dissing the prices of it.
Dearie me.

Yes, that is true, but there are new DVD players being released all the time, and they are getting cheaper and cheaper, even on the days they come out. Anyone could pick up a new DVD player from £100 these days.
And saying that PS2 was released 2 years ago doesn't make any difference. PS2s were made when there were no new consoles out, so they could've made their price cheap, but no, they didn't, so we sort of have to compare them with a £300 price tag when describing the launch of things.
New DVD player (£100) + New GC (130) = cheaper than a PS2 was at launch.

If this is true, then why did you buy a GameCube (check back through the posts and u will find this little fact).

A moment ago you were claiming all the top titles were £45, and now you're saying nothing is priced that high. You've been beaten by the facts, and the truth that presents itself to me is that you really really don't have a god damned clue what on earth you are talking about. You're making up figures as you go along, contradicting your own arguments, showing a complete lack of knowledge on the subject and generally making yourself look incredibly stupid.
Sorry, I forgot PS2 had Rogue Leader, Pikmin, Super Smash Bros, Monkey Ball, Luigi's Mansion, Sonic Adventure 2, Wave Race, Zoo Cube, etc etc etc ad infinitum. Oh, wait a minute, PS2 doesn't have ANY of them.
You are such an impossibly ignorant buffoon, and I use the word ignorant in it's strongest possible sense. Were you born stupid, or did someone drop you on your head as a child? That is a serious question, I think you have brain damage or some other related issue.
