There are sixteen places available (four groups of four). To register for the tournament - you don't need SSBM to do this - pick one of the characters below:
- Mario
- Dr. Mario
- Luigi
- Bowser
- Peach
- Yoshi
- Donkey Kong
- Captain Falcon
- Ganondorf
- Fox McCloud
- Falco
- Ness
- Ice Climbers
- Kirby
- Samus
- Zelda
- Link
- Young Link
- Pikachu
- Jiggly-Puff
- Marth
- Roy
Once you've picked the character you want, tell me by posting a message in this thread. If, however, you notice that someone already has the character you want, you can still have that character but please specify a different colour in the post.
---------------------------------------------
All the rules will be set as default and the matches will be two minutes long. The arena will be RANDOM each time, and your characters will be set at CPU Level 9. The only change to the rules will be the objects on VERY HIGH probability, to make for a more unpredictable match. I will start the matches at 18:00 tomorrow (25th July) providing sixteen people have signed up.
---------------------------------------------
It will start with group stages (A,B,C,D) and you will play against the other three people in your group totalling three matches before you get to the knock out stage. Once the group stages are up, the top two people from each group will qualify for the quarter finals, then, logically, it will go onto the semi finals, third place play offs, and ultimately the grand final.
---------------------------------------------
I thought this might be a fun thing to do, considering the recent success of Foreman's tournament - so post you character and possibly colour to register for the sixteen!
Why!?!?
BIGMAN (Young Link)
Na†ßu© (Yoshi)
Uncle Albert (Dr. Mario)
Tiltawhirl (Captain Falcon)
Check back tomorrow for the semifinals!
Pikachu (**Kerrang!**) vs. Captain Falcon (Tiltawhirl)
Stage: Mushroom Kingdom – Mushroom Kingdom
This match consisted mainly of self destructs as the competitors kept falling down the trenches (if that’s what they’re called) and failing to bring themselves back up again. There weren’t many items used in this match, and at some points the two were just waiting around.
Pikachu (**Kerrang!**):
0 KNOCK OUTs, 1 FALL, 1 SELF DESTRUCT = -2.
Captain Falcon (Tiltawhirl):
1 KNOCK OUT, 0 FALLs, 2 SELF DESTRUCTs = -1.
WINNER:
Captain Falcon (Tiltawhirl)
The Dr. Mario/Falco match should be match 3 of 4, and it isn't a double post. Sorry if it's a bit confusing. Right, our semi-finalists are:
BIGMAN (Young Link)
Na†ßu© (Yoshi)
Uncle Albert (Boss Pac-Man)
Just read the matches in the order I've posted them, and ignore my last one saying it was a double post.
BIGMAN (Young Link)
Dr. Mario (Uncle Albert)
Falco – Ice Blue (Boss Pac-Man) vs. Dr. Mario (Uncle Albert)
Stage: F-Zero Grand Prix – Mute City
It was very close this one, with only self destructs deciding the eventual outcome. The racers on the track seemed to inflict the most damage and Falco seemed to get in the way of one too many. Dr. Mario then prescribed a healthy dosage of explosives to win the match:
Falco – Ice Blue (Boss Pac-Man):
1 KNOCK OUT, 1 FALL, 2 SELF DESTRUCTs = -2.
Dr. Mario (Uncle Albert):
1 KNOCK OUT, 1 FALL, 0 SELF DESTRUCTs = 0.
WINNER:
Dr. Mario (Uncle Albert)
Yoshi (Na†ßu©) vs. Falco – White (Foreman)
Stage: Termina – Great Bay
This was a fairly one-sided and eventful match, with excellent use of items. The beam sword was used particularly well by Yoshi, and Falco seemed to rely on Pokeballs and mushrooms for extra power. Let’s see how the match eventually turned out:
Yoshi (Na†ßu©):
4 KNOCK OUTs, 1 FALL, 1 SELF DESTRUCT = +2.
Falco – White (Foreman):
1 KNOCK OUT, 4 FALLs, 0 SELF DESTRUCTs = -3.
WINNER:
Yoshi (Na†ßu©)
BIGMAN (Young Link)
Young Link (BIGMAN) vs. Link (Blazing Anton)
Stage: Mushroom Kingdom – Mushroom Kingdom II
This is the first quarterfinals match, and it was a close one too, due to the fact that Link was playing himself, only in a younger/older form. As I said, it was a very tight and uneventual match, but there can only be one winner. Let’s see how it turned out.
Young Link (BIGMAN):
1 KNOCK OUT, 0 FALLs, 1 SELF DESTRUCT = 0.
Link (Blazing Anton):
0 KNOCK OUTs, 1 FALL, 1 SELF DESTRUCT = -2.
WINNER:
Young Link (BIGMAN)
