I like FM. ;)
Now I've got to try and figure a way to outsmart this facist spellchecker..
Reli gion, touch it and I'm going to hurt you.

It's called 'Snugglyism'. Very popular around here for some reason.

Chance isn't a random occurance. In the same way that a computer can only produce pseudo-random numbers as opposed to true random numbers in the mathematical sense, mathematicians studying Chaos Theory and physicists studying String Theory are beginning to realise that in fact nothing at all is random and that everything was in fact all predefined at the start of our Universe. So in that sense there IS such a thing as fate, in that all things are preordained by the way the Universe was initially set up. All our actions now and in the future are just reactions to all that has gone before.
With enough study, it is believed that one day we will be able to accurately predict all future events by studying what has gone before. Unfortunately Schroedinger's Theory (in essence this is along the lines of 'What we observe we change') is a stumbling block at present.
This should put an end to the National Lottery once and for all, but the main plus is that we won't have to phone in sick for work anymore because our boss will already have been able to work it out for himself.
Buggering SR has gone and beaten my lovely I spelling of Reli'geon with an ugly stick. :(

See what I mean about the suck ups? :P
"Hurn you're a moron"
"Ooooh thankyou Ma'am, thankyou for gracing my pathetic existance with a speck of interest"
Please don't encourage them. :P
On a side note, directed towards Myst's post... when he *was* a kid? ;)
Sonic mate, religeon (I always spell it with an "I", I know its incorrect, I don't care - ugly word, little more fluid if its spelt with an "I") is also an amalgamation of double standards and hypocrisy, whilst it preaches good will it also does the opposite. There are very few tolerant religeons, such as Buddhism, who live and let live. The rest, like christians, tend to try to impose their views on everyone and their neighbour... if you don't believe in THEIR God, you'll burn in hell, if you subscribe to any other religeon, you'll burn in hell, if you point out a contradiction in the bible, you'll burn in hell and they'll pretend that if they ignore it then it changes the fact that it IS there. You'll also find that in more cases than not, religeon is the driving force behind a lot of wars, a recent example is Bin Laden - who actually believes that his murdering thousands was as God intended. Its not the "God" to blame, its the morons who care out actions in his/her name.
Did anyone catch that UK service put on by the archbishop of cantebury for the Americans after Sept 11th?
I found myself turning the TV off in dusgust and cussing like a soldier when the pompous old oaf came out with this little gem; he was discussing the fact that a lot of the people who had family or friends die in that tragedy will have lost all faith and belief in "God" or christianity, and if you heard what the little maggot said I'm sure you'll agree he was out of line. He basically came out with something along the lines of "Anyone who lost faith because of losing someone in the bombing, was never a christian at all, because a REAL christian would never lose their faith". I remember thinking to myself "How DARE he?!"... these people were likely more true to the definition of christian than he is, that debauched little git, who does everything unchristian behind closed doors. They could've gone to churhc every single day of their life, never cussed, always donated money to the poor, always turned the other cheek, and followed every one of christianity's creeds and commandments to the letter - but losing their family/friends in the massacre was enough to change their mind, and this worm is saying they were never christians? Unfortunately the majority of subscribers to that particular type of religeon, are THAT ignorant. Religeon is more trouble than its worth.
I myself am not an athiest, agnostic, or a religeous man... I wouldn't class myself as any of the predefined categories, nor do I subscribe to any religeon. I strongly believe in fate, but tend to view it as a person rather than an occurence, generally I think thats where all "Gods" came from - humans creating a human form for something they believe in as it makes it easier to associate with or understand. But without going off on too much of a tangent, I've seen way too many things occur "against all odds" to believe that chance is a random occurance, and as such believe in fate, whether or not thats just another interpretation of "God" remains to be seen... but I do believe in some higher entity/occurance governing events.

The letters 'n' and 'l' in the word notable stand for 'No Life'. This is due to the majority of us spending 98% of our leisure time next to our computers.

I kind of agree, most of religion is about control. If there were no God, therefore no everlasting punishment for wrong doings in this life, how would Governments manage to control a population that was hedonistic? Police Forces? Armies? Perish the thought!
As an aetheist, you should know that there is nothing wrong at all in taking the world by force and making all bow down to you in subservience because you feel like doing it. There is nothing wrong with coveting your neighbour's wife, stealing his donkey, and chopping his head off for using an electric hedge trimmer at 9am on a Sunday morning. It's just that most people don't go down these routes because they know that society is against these kinds of actions.
Why is society against these kinds of action? Because they've been told by those in power that these kinds of action are 'bad' and that to do them will result in everlasting damnation. These kinds of actions aren't 'bad', they're just anti-social and difficult to get away with, which is why most aetheists don't go around decapitating annoying neighbours. It's just not worth the hassle.
No offence :P
Most of religion is moralistic. It teaches people how to live life well, and much of this is common sense- help other people, don't harm others..
More so, religious people are far more likely to learn from the past. The old testiment is mostly based on historical events- the great flood, exodus and almost every other "story" actually happened. Although I don't believe in God, the bible puts such stories into a moralistic view.
My major worry about religion is fundamentalist raping of it's teachings- Bin Laden is a perfect example.
As for the meaning of life, for me it would be enriching and bettering the human race. Oddly enough, isn't that the whole point of evolution anyway?
> When you were a kid....Did you get dropped on the head?
Funny story. I actually was dropped on my head as a kid. In a Supermarket, into the frozen pizza freezer!
:)
