After long, tiring trawling of the internet, at times with a japanese-english translator, i've tracked down maybe the best deal i can find on a panasonic q-cube (and on a site in english!):

modified for us/jap games, mulit-region dvd - £260 (US$ 390)
unmodified - £230 (US$ 350)

international shipping to uk (2 day) - £45 (US$ 70)

*both include step-down transformer for use with european power supply - i'm guessing, but i think it might also need a socket adaptor, but that'll be dirt cheap.

so, a grand total of £305 modified or £275 unmodified.
When freeloader is available, the only difference between modded and unmodded will be the multi-region dvd facility. £30 to upgrade to a multi-region? Considering dvdboxoffice and r1's earlier releases, i think it's worth it.

Downside - they want payment by bank transfer or paypal (there are a couple of other options, but they're complicated), and you have to put a bit of trust in the company.

I've signed up to paypal, but you need a confirmation code that'll be printed on my credit card statement, which could take a month or two to come through. Also, i could do with selling my current dvd player first.
Still, i'd have to wait until after i next get paid, and a chance to cool off on the whole idea might be good..

If and when i buy it, i'll get back to you.

10/10
Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Best Provider
The best provider I know of, never a problem, recommend highly
