modified for us/jap games, mulit-region dvd - £260 (US$ 390)
unmodified - £230 (US$ 350)
international shipping to uk (2 day) - £45 (US$ 70)
*both include step-down transformer for use with european power supply - i'm guessing, but i think it might also need a socket adaptor, but that'll be dirt cheap.
so, a grand total of £305 modified or £275 unmodified.
When freeloader is available, the only difference between modded and unmodded will be the multi-region dvd facility. £30 to upgrade to a multi-region? Considering dvdboxoffice and r1's earlier releases, i think it's worth it.
Downside - they want payment by bank transfer or paypal (there are a couple of other options, but they're complicated), and you have to put a bit of trust in the company.
I've signed up to paypal, but you need a confirmation code that'll be printed on my credit card statement, which could take a month or two to come through. Also, i could do with selling my current dvd player first.
Still, i'd have to wait until after i next get paid, and a chance to cool off on the whole idea might be good..
If and when i buy it, i'll get back to you.
Cheap unmodded cube (US$350 / £230), bit pricey postage (HK$600 / £50) and i've looked at the customs duty and vat, which works out at a shocking £60ish (damn you to hell blair, with your hands in my pockets. A sinner may be labour, but the devil's a tory, and she'll (maggie) see you burn)
Anyway, totals £340 (good estimate). Plus freeloader makes it all region cube, and just a region 2 dvd player - i can live with that, for the price saving.
If i can flog my cube and dvd at good prices, i'll only be £100 down on where i am now anyway, i think. Lots of variables mind.
In 2 weeks, when i get back from holiday, and i'll be paid, i'll do it : D
i think i only got charged £36 because i got my gamecube on ebay for £138 i think it was , it was very cheap , and brand new ! To bad it took 6 weeks to get here (he sent it by land mail !)

You got off lightly mate.
I read that someone got charged a whopping £80 for there GameCube.
£80 to bring it in the country.
I got charged £0 for mine, since those kind folk at NCS wrote it off as a second-hand unit to past those pesky customs people.

Ooo, I signed up for PayPal the other day. Not used it yet though, my only problem with Lik-Sang is the import duty, since more often than not, Customs will check and you will get charged.
if it is , they are very good and very quick (a few days from hong kong !)
i got my step down convertor and memory card from there.
also , with the paypal thing , i convinced my dad to sign up for this so that i could buy stuff from liksang and ebay without cheques and without giving out his credit card number. And it only took a few days for the confirmation code to come , i think they send one out just with the code on it , paypal tell them to do it so you can start using it within a few days, so not long dr duck , lucky beggar :)
Some details of how your Burglar alarm works would be nice too.
