COMPETITION NOW CLOSED - WINNER TO BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY

Another day, another great opportunity to win an EXTRA GAMEADAY prize. That's one prize of any game of your choice if you are a member of SR, or one prize of an SR Membership with Free Gift, if you are not a member.

Take a look at this page:

http://registration.freeola.net/errors/e.php?ec=404

The purpose of this page is to show people that they have gone to the wrong page.

However, there is another important role for these pages, and that's to get people to our site! Most of the people seeing this error page have never heard of us, and we want them to become SR fans.

This competition closes on August 10th and will be judged by Loki himself.

To win you must design a simple, fast-loading page with sufficient innovation to achieve a high click rate to the following sites:
UKgames.com
UKpc.net
Freeola.com
GetDotted.com

Place the url in a reply in this thread and Loki will pop in from time to time and publish your link as a hotlink in this opening thread (so that people can easily see all the page designs you have entered).

You can enter as many times as you like and there will be one winner who produces the design which impresses loki the most. If no designs impress loki at all then he will not issue a prize.

It's vital that the page loads quickly. You are more likely to win with some clever wording than you are with flashy designs. You can use one of our stock banner, like the one shown on the error page at present, or you can make your design without a banner if you like.

Good Luck.

ajg, your comments will be filed in the rubbish basket.

To be honest I don't think you have a clue what you are talking about.

You say all our ideas are copied and there are hardly any original ideas. Then you post your attempt which is not evenly aligned properly which would be a pre-requisite for the 404 page.

Then you accuse us of chucking our dummys out of our prams because we defend ourselves. Your comments were not constructive and I can't believe that you are a web designer (or coder). Coders should be able to allign tables properly, you haven't which would cause problems with people using low resolutions.

Looking at your site also helps my arguement. The visuals are nice and give an air of mystery but there is absolutely no content apart from your email address. As a very "amateur" web designer I know enough to never simply put my email address on a page as you are inviting spammers to use it.

Why don't you stop acting like a superior member of the forums and actually show us some of your real accomplishments? Post URLs here and I may be inclined to change my mind. Until then, please keep quiet unless you have something constructive to say....

heh, as you said, it is just for fun so why critisise? they never asked for any also, they're not being paid to design the page, it's a competition anyone can enter anything, the original design they had worked and they're not really asking for anything new in that department, they want something to attract customers to the 4 given urls and to advertise Special Reserve a little more than the current page, they say wording is a lot more important, fair enough. You are right though, it's SR that want the design but they asked us and except for Tyla there arn't any regular Web professionals in this forum so what would they expect? also once again, they're not paying us. I happen to think most of the desigs are pretty cool in this competition and it's great that theres been quite an intrest in it, I didn't know most of them knew how to use web software or any HTML, i'm happy they've entered, also you won't win unless you enter, whos to say they won't?

Anyway, I don't see why they have to stick to any design rules, Tony didn't set any, they can create whatever they want.

Heh, I was joking mate. Anyway, I'm young and I'm trying to learn, so are a lot of other people, some pages may be poor, others may be good, but all are efforts in their own way.

Hey, I agree with ye guys. My attempt aint great. But then I'm not, or never have claimed to be a web designer. I work for a consultancy. I'm a coder. (ok, we can argue the differences if you like, but still...). I program applications, not webpages. I realise that there are a lot of school kids here, so I should have known better.

I was trying to demonstrate my idea of trying to integrate the new page into the old site by using whats there already - not nicking it. Seeing as freeola own it and they'll be the ones using it I can't see how thats 'nicking' it, anyway. But I'll gladly talk to you about my ideas on Code reuse too, if you're so interested. I think it forms a very important basis and methodology for programming that I'm happy to discuss.

It's funny how kids come on here bragging about how much they charge for a website - give their urls even. And put together entries like some we've seen. Just goes to show.

Welcome to the real world. I'm sure Tyla will understand where I'm coming from. If you're working for someone and they say they don't like it, you can't throw you toys out the pram like LordH and RickOss just did. You have to work on it until they are happy with it. If they're the ones with the budget or they're the ones employing you they would you do the same?? Say "well, at least its better than yours..." and run off and sulk! :) Go and grow up.

I'm fully aware that this is for fun but when you're chatting on a public forum you should be about to handle critism.
