COMPETITION NOW CLOSED - WINNER TO BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY

Another day, another great opportunity to win an EXTRA GAMEADAY prize. That's one prize of any game of your choice if you are a member of SR, or one prize of an SR Membership with Free Gift, if you are not a member.

Take a look at this page:

http://registration.freeola.net/errors/e.php?ec=404

The purpose of this page is to show people that they have gone to the wrong page.

However, there is another important role for these pages, and that's to get people to our site! Most of the people seeing this error page have never heard of us, and we want them to become SR fans.

This competition closes on August 10th and will be judged by Loki himself.

To win you must design a simple, fast-loading page with sufficient innovation to achieve a high click rate to the following sites:
UKgames.com
UKpc.net
Freeola.com
GetDotted.com

Place the url in a reply in this thread and Loki will pop in from time to time and publish your link as a hotlink in this opening thread (so that people can easily see all the page designs you have entered).

You can enter as many times as you like and there will be one winner who produces the design which impresses loki the most. If no designs impress loki at all then he will not issue a prize.

It's vital that the page loads quickly. You are more likely to win with some clever wording than you are with flashy designs. You can use one of our stock banner, like the one shown on the error page at present, or you can make your design without a banner if you like.

Good Luck.

Point taken... reflected on... and digested...

They're not all corporate, in fact only two of them are, the rest are "custom built" to a pre defined audience. it doesn't have to be "corporate" to be big.

We handle about 200+ sites and simple stuff which can be knoced out in apps like DW is much quicker than having to do it all by hand. If it works, why re-invent it. As for back end... XML/xSLT and XFO is my main other thing, We have developers for stuff like .NET/ASP/JSP/PHP etc, but I do do a little myself if needed. Again, due to work load, we can't all do the same job other wise we'd get no where... And there's the joy of recycling too.

>I know your good with images, but I don't think a million people visi the website because it looks good, thats just a bonus and I doubt very much that you wrote the content of the website.

Show me someone who has... We're a publishing house, academic authours, editors and directors write the content and we store it in multiple formats. A million people use the site because a)it's oneof the best out there in this field and b)It's easy to use and stacks highly on usability for a fore mentioned academics (which is a design process though I do reconise the fact it could have been better, but it aint bad for a total rebuild in 30 days). As for the display of the content, I part worte the XML DTD that handles it, designed the full look and feel, and also played a part int he back end solutions and architecture. I don't just make things look pretty. thats the whole point of my job...

> Did you do the advertising for the company or do people search sites

Again.. the million hits are from it's user base, my satisfaction comes from knowing that these million+ people are using an interface and site design constrcted my me with the help of a firm called Atypoon. Thats a bit of a stupid comment to make, as obviously it's the product people search for, not the person...

The sad thing is.. I HATE MY JOB!! There's only so many academic sites you can build before it becomes plug 'n play! And academics aren't really pushing the boundaries!;)

I miss blue chip!...

My blackbelt only extends as far as Photoshop and Illustrator... **tyla takes the stance of the stork**

Quick question... you ever done much with CFML? Looking for someone who can give me some pro's and con's of it.

It's not a case of self inflating my ego, more of being proud of what I have achieved in less than 4 years and being recognised for it, especially in academic circles.

I was one told by my Design Tutor that "there is nothing wrong in being proud of your work and ability, how people react to you is art in itself"

Why feel sorry for me?

And as for being a noce bloke... just as the wife!;)

how many of you can say you have designed a site which receives 1 million unique hits per month! and generates over 500k in revenue a year...
not many...

anyway, I quoted you for a reason...

I'm sure the website is big, thats what you do, big corporate websites, if so, did you do the backend coding? I had no idea ou knew php or asp, still not sure if you write Javascript as most of your stuff is Dreamweaver. I know your good with images, but I don't think a million people visi the website because it looks good, thats just a bonus and I doubt very much that you wrote the content of the website. Did you do the advertising for the company or do people search sites like Google for "Alan Tyla" i'm sure your popular but 1 million fans? thats impressive...

Slightly different design this one.

But I've added some Alt tags, oh yes.
