I'm doing some sort of lyrics server - don't ask, you may see eventually. I want pages with the lyrics of songs on to be able to play the MP3s on request, just basic play/stop/pause buttons. Maybe not pause. Anyway, the MP3s are going to be in my filesystem, so I would want to play them directly off the HDD. I suppose I can pipe them through Apache (localhost), but it puts generally more work on things. Heh, have I lost you yet?

Anyway, so, MP3-inna-webpage, anyone know how?

Oh, did I mention Mozilla? =P

Good man :)
*waits for Turbonutter's ideas*
I'm actually quite surprised at Tyla's response, I was almost certain that he'd be ranting about 56k modem's...etc ;)

Did you ever watch the kareeoke fish thing on tv? it was on a while back at about 3am on Saturdays, very amusing, pap songs but I was usually too plastered to care.
Certainly is an original idea, I can imagine you'd need a fast server to store all the MP3s on though and certainly not worth doing unless your going to get support from regular visitors.

I can't add anything technical, but is this going to be internet karaoke?

Please let this be internet karaoke...

In fact, if i wasn't afraid of the law and having to deal with big corporations. That and getting flash (did i mention law :O) ) - or making swish work, i might even consider doing one myself.

Though never really get round to it, obviously.

You can use the Quicktime music player thingy, it uses the bottom part of the Quitime player e.g. play/stop/pause and the time line thing.
It would take about 100% less time than uploading it than with Flash, yet Flash is customisable and will look better with a funky background.

Hi Rob.. Hows Greece?

I'm not too sure about this one as it's something a couple of us at work have looked into... The browser wont decode MPŁ's on the fly without some form of plugin, external app? You used to be able to play music through IE as part of the page, but this was limited and IE driven only...

I'm on the undertsanding that your after a jukebox type thing in the page allowing your users to change the songs?

Your only real options will be

Flash?
Quicktime?
Some dodgy windows app?

Try Beatnik? They might have some ideas
