Along with the appointment of a new manager comes a lot of new thoughts and ideas to be added into the first team squad. So now that Terry Venables has taken control of the first team affairs at Elland Road, the Leeds United players will have to expect changes and Mr.Ridsdale will have to remove the padlock and chain from his wallet so that 'El Tel' can spend big and bring in the treasures that O'Leary could not find.

In order for the Chairman to allow big money to go out he'll need to have that satisfaction and guarrentee that what goes out, will come back in some nice lump sums. And Terry Venables isn't the kind of manager who'll just snort at the chance to change things so that things suit him best.

It has come to us and Leeds fans themselves as no real surprise to see Venners stepping in to take action instantly, and begin to make changes within his first week back at the top. But it's the player envloved that causes the "Ooooooo"'s "Aaaaaaa"'s up and down the country.

It's none other than Lee Bowyer who's been Transfer Listed!
Leeds United's no.1 as of last season for his off-the-field antics along with Jonothan Woodgate - who remains in Venables' plans for now.
Of all the players in the entire Leeds squad, you wouldn't have thought that he'd be the unlucky one at this point in the time. Surely everyone connected with Leeds United has forgotten about his recent past, and the former Charlton man was on-fire for his sides end-of-season push into the UEFA Cup once again.

It's not my place to say if this is the wrong or right descision for Mr.Venables to make, that's why he was appointed as manager in the first place. I could never do his job!
Even if this is for better rather than for worse, Bowyer will still need a new place to play that he can also call his new 'home'. So which buyers would be right for him, and who should be taking note of this situation???

Well, for a start, there have already been quite a few strong rumours suggesting that Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier is very keen to sign this talented Englishman for around £9m - a decent price for a high-quality player who isn't wanted by his new manager.
With no other notable bids coming in for Lee's services, he should strongly consider playing at Anfield, in the big European matches against the big European teams - along with the likes of Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard and co.
Go for it! Along with the possibilliy of winning things and more money, playing at the top infront of The Kop could help boost your chances of playing for England even more!!

Well, as of now that's the only offer we've heard about regarding Bowyer leaving Elland Road. But I think there are one or two other Brittish clubs where he could slot into the midfield with a great effect...

Rangers - Besides Liverpool, and with Arsenal and Man United fine as they are with their midfields, there's really no other English Premiership club that could offer Lee Bowyer more than he was getting at Elland Road.
So what about playing in Scotland???
It's not like Rangers are a small club or anything, look at some of the big-names who have played there - including ex-Denmark star Brian Laudrup, England boozer Paul Gascoigne, and even Italy's Reno Gattusso!
Lee Bowyer could fit-in as the 'Midfield Maestro', scoring goal-after-goal alongside Barry Ferguson week-in week-out.
Rangers are the only team who can halt Celtic in their winning ways, and Bowyer could be just the right kind of input they need to get going again.
Not only would he be getting away from the jeers and taunts of Premiership fans, but he'd also get a nice Winter Break just in-time for Christmas.

Celtic - If he doesn't fancy Rangers then he can go to the current no.1 team in Scotland and work for the man that could've been at Elland Road in Martin O'Neill. Success would almost guarrenteed in his first season there after several consecutive years in pole position for The Hoops now.
His only problem would be shifting players like Paul Lambert and Neil Lennon from the team in order to get some match-practice. But i'm sure a fiery little dynamo like himself could soon do that no problem!

In short, the way I see it is this:
Lee Bowyer has had his fun in the Premiership, unless of course he really fancies the chance to play at Anfield and also feels he can move the likes of Hamman and the Cameroons back into the reserves. And besides, Liverpool have probably spent all they need to anyway. I think Houllier just wants Bowyer to make up the numbers for the Subs' Bench in Europe.
Scotland's the place to be (but not in the summer! Or in winter for that fact - unless you love snow...)
Why not try something new and improve your game one step further at a time?
Who knows, could be a trip to sunny old Spain after this - and then onto the World Cup in Germany!

If anyone misses out on his departure then it's Leeds themselves.
And to make matters worse the may be selling Dacourt too, and there's no 'New Bowyer' lined-up for the new season!
Then again... they could be selling Viduka or Kewell.... :S

Comment on Bowyer's situation. Where should he go??

There are both a lot of good and bad points about the Bowyer to Liverpool deal for Liverpool alone - and it does look like he WILL be signign very soon.

I know what you mean about his bad behaviour of the pitch, and not only could that damage Liverpool's reputation as an F.C. on their travles in hotels and the like (Stan Collymores-style), but his bad behavious could also have a bad effect on the future stars coming through the Youth Ranks who look up to the Stars of the First Team.

But you cannot take anything away from him when you look at what he can do ON the pitch - especially when it's a big game, time's running out, and the team needs every single player to give it their all for the last 15 minutes before that Penalty Shoot-out in the FA Cup Semi Final...

He'll be a great asset to Liverpool no matter what.
But Houllier may need to bring-in outside help to calm the little critter and save his heart again.
And what has Vladimir Smicer ever done for them!??

Come on! Lee Bowyer at Liverpool would be absolutely fantastic!

I think it was a disgrace that he wasn't allowed to go to the World Cup and the FA should be ashamed. He was aquitted(sp) of any wrong doing in court so why the ban?

If I am not mistaken, Tony Adams went to prison. He still played for England.

Anyway, good for Liverpool. At least they are signing an English player which Arsenal seem incapable of doing. I've read that they are getting rid of Jeffers now only to go off and buy yet more French players. Pathetic.......

Add Bowyer to the squad, put him next to Gerrard in the midfield and you will have a brilliant partnership.

I'll admit he's a pretty good player, but according to Sky Murphy actually did better than him last season.

My main problem is with his attitude. He's always getting into trouble on and off the pitch, and he's just such a...punk! :D No, I mean, if he gets fouled then he'll usually shove the offender with his shoulder when he walks past.

And it certainly dents my pride, considering I've spent the last year or so ranting on about him to friends, and now he's about to join my fave club...bah.

Please, call the Bowyer deal off! I don't want filth in my favourite football team, thanks.

And anyway, we've got better players than him. We've already got Gerrard, Hamann, Murphy, Cheyrou, El Diouf, Diao (soon) and hopefully Smicer will stay - we do not need Lee Bowyer.

If Liverpool want sign a right sided midfielder, why not go for McManaman? I reckon he'd love to go back to Liverpool, and I think he'd be an extremely useful addition to our midfied.

Oh, and does Aliou Diarra play in midfield?

Looks like Bowyer's move to Liverpool isn't going as smoothly as planned for Houllier.... due to personal demands in wages I believe.

And Liverpool wanted him all signed-up and ready in-time for their first pre-season friendly - which I believe is tommorow.

Ain't gunna happen!

Undoubtabely, Bowyer's arrival will imrpove Liverpool's middle-4 even more and increase their chances of winning the league this time further.
I always thought he'd be fighting for a role in the center, but I forgot about those odd-occasions when he played wide-right for Leeds.

That may not be his best position, but he's got a better chance of playing there than taking Gerard's or Hamman's places while they're fit.
And Smicer's apparently leaving too, so the right-wing position is free - and Bowyer can also add his defensive play there against the likes of Giggs and Pires in the big games.

As for the money thing...
I know that O'Leary spent loads and didn't really get much back in return, but the point I was trying to make is that with all that cash going-out, he didn't really have anything silver coming in like expected.
I also thought that this could make Ridsdale think twice or more about giving Venables free access to his bank account, incase the same thing happens again.

But honestly, I don't see how Venables will do any better than O'Leary - especially if Rio leaves after Bowyer's gone aswell!
And they're still gunna need to replace Bowyer AND Dacourt when he goes.
Somehow, I don't think Nick Barmby's the man like some rumours suggest...

In reply to everything, I think that David O'leary spent roughly £88 million in his time as Leeds boss yet failed to sell players to equal the balance.

Lee Bowyer will probably sign for us (Liverpool) by tonight or tommorrow and will be an integral part of the midfield which will consist of Riise, Gerrard, Hamann and Bowyer as Beefcake said and luckily Babbel will hopefully have fully recovered from his career threatening injury that would have seen him lose the use of his legs.

This would cap off a great summer of transfers at Anfield which has seen the likes of young stars El-Hadji Diouf, Bruno Cheyrou, Salif Diao and Alou Diarra arrive.

Liverpool will undoubtedly be major challengers for all trophies be it the new season or in a few years time with a strikeforce that consists of some of the finest players of the future around in Michael Owen, Emile Heskey, Milan Baros and El-Hadji Diouf along with the experienced head of Jari Litmanen.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but didn't I read that Leeds had spent over £100 million while managed by O'Leary?

Bowyer will be an integral part of Houllier’s Team when he arrives. His ability to score his fair share of goals from midfield is vital to a team like Liverpool, who generally play in a defensive style. I can see their midfield being thus:

Riise, Hamman, Gerrard, Bowyer.

Riise will move onto the left side of midfield when Babbel returns at rightback and Carragher moves out onto the left.

The other new signings are in place to cover Gerrard (injury prone) and to provide a squad capable of challenging for honours in all competitions.
