Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Sonic The Hedgehog 3
Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic 3D Blast
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Sonic Spinball
According to Codejunkies.com, the announcement by SEGA claims that each game is going to be exactly the same as the originals.
I for one am looking forward to this 'Sonic Allstars' disc, having never had a mega-drive...
That is of course, IF it IS all true.
It'd be great to re-live the good ol' days - even if I do have a MegaDrive hidden away somewhere. :)
Hopefully the Streets of Rage series will be next! :D
Edgy, you missed out on a LOT without a MegaDrive...
Sonic games are completely unforgiving (one hit and you run out of coins, another and you die), and everything is based on the player's skill- there is no luck. Meanwhile the gameplay is still simple and addictive.
The only way it doesn't stand up by today's standards is in graphics and sound... but that has no bearing on the quality of the game. My favourite game list is filled with the likes of SNES games.
Sonic
I was pondering this for some time. The Sonic MD games were awesome, especially the later ones with Knuckles in...!
And that Sonic Spinball was also quite good too... Hmm, I shall definitely try to get this, even though I've owned most of those games before... ah, first Sonic on a Nintendo console, then all his classics which were once selling a Sega console to the masses over a Nintendo console are also being put on a NIntendo console... Can't wait.

Doesn't bother me, providing they're good games (retro or not)
Although at the moment it looks like we are gonna have a overflow of sonic games...
I can't believe it would actually take months of porting to get Sonic Mega Collection to the GameCube.
Maybe a bit of touching up the programming and including a menu system (similar to Mario Allstars would do), but it shouldn't be that hard to stick Sonic Mega Collection on the GameCube.
I'll certainly be getting the Mega Collection, but as I said, I've never owned a MegaDrive (played on quite a lot, but never owned) so I can't wait to play these games...
That said, they obviously don't cut it by today's standards, you'd have to look at them in a tongue in cheek, hip and retro kind of way.
Glad to see sonic spinball did make the cut though.
Still, it'd be tough to part with a full £40 for it, however hip and retro it seems.
Hopefully, sega will see sense and reatil it at within £25. (Maybe that's optomistic..) And get a release comfortably before the autumn rush (sunshine, metroid and everything). Maybe that's optomistic too.
Still, if it is reasonably successful, hopefully it'll pave the way for some of the other true classics. I'd love to see a streets of rage compilation - still better gaming than the best its modern day pretenders (eg, fighting force).
Then again, after the wave of n-gen conversions to the cube (although to be fair, it's not seemed as bad as some of us feared), perhaps going on to convert even earlier titles, using up resources which could be producing new titles, as we see here with sonic, in the zelda: oot re-release, and on the gba (eg, mario advance), and probably others i've not thought of...
Well, it might not be such a good thing after all.

it's a gem- just a bit short. A sequel could have massive new levels, proper 3d flying, an epic story, proper 2 player mode and massive bosses.
Oh, and twirly is right. As I've been saying over the last few weeks...
Sega have the biggest in house dev team in the world possibly, and yet the make ports. If they could make games as technically brilliant as early saturn titles, or as original as DC games they'll storm every genre in the market!

Well..um...actually....
