There is one problem though. I, like many others in their teenage years, don't currently have a job. I am still in full time education and finding a part time job which doesn't involve frying burgers is very difficult. Sure, I get a small amount of 'pocket money' for helping round the house, but with new games priced between £35 and £40, it's still difficult to get all the games I want.
I do, however, have a way of making life a little easier in this situation. I make up a wishlist of games I want in my mind, then prioritise them by which ones I want the most and by the date they're released. Here's an example:
I want these games for the GameCube: Zelda, Mario Sunshine, Turok Evolution, Starfox Adventures, Resident Evil, Donkey Kong Racing. (There are others, but these'll do for the example.
If I re-arrange them into a list to show them in the order I most want them, the highest being the one I want most, then the list looks like this:
Zelda
Starfox Adventures
Turok Evolution
Mario Sunshine
Donkey Kong Racing
Resident Evil
However, these games wont be coming out in this order, so to make sure I get each game as soon as possible, whilst keeping priority where possible, the list looks like this:
Starfox Adventures
Turok Evolution
Mario Sunshine
Zelda
Resident Evil
Donkey Kong Racing
Chances are, I wont be getting these games in this order, and there maybe one or two I'll never get, but atleast now I've got a chance to try and raise some cash for each game with some time between each release. Sure, Starfox and Turok Evolution will be released quite close to each other, but by the time I've played the one to death, I should have enough money for the other.
Ofcourse, my list is a lot bigger, and spans over many other consoles including the Game Boy Advance, PC and there are still some Dreamcast titles I want to buy. Atleast fifty-percent of the games I want, I probably wont buy, and chances are I'll make an impulse buy or two if I see any games I used to have at the top of my mental list going cheap or even some that just looked good in the shops.
Hopefully, I will be able to get all the games I want, but the odds of that happening aren't really in my favour. I'm a seventeen-year-old without a job, who longs to be able to go out with my friends who have got the money to, who doesn't just want to spend money on games. But gaming is my first love, and again, I prioritise games above other pleasures in life. I still go out when I can, but I prefer to play games than to get drunk, or to just 'hang about' doing nothing particularly fun.
So that's how I get the majority of games I want. It helps having a brother with a like for games, and my parents asking me what I want for birthdays and Christmas, but there are still many games I've missed in the past.
How do you get the games you want when you're stuck for cash?
