First come, first serve basis.
Pedro De La Rosa has pole position for the Belgian Grand Prix in tough conditions. The qualifying hour started wet but slowly dried as the hour went on. A dry line emerged but not for very long with only a handful of cars managing to catch it. After the rain came down, no one could improve.
In the battle for the championship, Panis, Frentzen, Ralf Schumacher and Montoya all managed to get in the top 6. Villenueve was the biggest loser as he could only manage 14th.

Anything can happen with the weather at unpredictable Belguim. What will happen as the championship battle nears it's conclusion?
Montoya has won the Hungarian Grand Prix with a comfortable margin and never looked troubled. Montoya led off the grid and pulled a nice gap out which no one looked like closing.
In the battle for the championship, Montoya has given himself a chance and is only 10 points behind new leader, Frentzen. Villeneuve could do nothing to stop Frentzen with a 9th place finish. Panis is now tied for 2nd in the championship with a 5th place finish.
The barrier was extremely busy with 4 cars losing wheels at the same corner. Coulthard was the first to go on lap 4. He was chasing Yoong hard and pushed too hard and crashed out. Ralf Schumacher crashed on lap 29 at the same corner. Salo retired on lap 30 with transmission problems followed a lap later by Massa, who fell victim at that corner. Sato made it 4 crashes on lap 43.
Montoya looked very comfortable and took the win. Frentzen moved back to the top of the champions race with 2nd place. Fisichella scores more points with 3rd place. Yoong, Panis and Barrichello rounded out the top 6.

Only 4 rounds to go. Can Frentzen hold off all challengers?
Montoya took pole position in a tricky session which went wet, then dry, then wet again. It took a number of runs to find the perfect setup and times were sent tumbling numerous times with most of the drivers having pole for a brief moment.
Frentzen's challenge for the title has taken a major boost with 2nd on the grid. Frentzen will be even more delighted to see Villeneuve down in 18th and will be looking to take the championship lead back. The other title challengers, Panis and Ralf Schumacher, managed 10th and 19th respectively.
