Some of the faster cars could be caught up in the pack. Let's hope for a dry race.
Great report again Grandprix.
7th for Bernoldi. Bah!
Jarno Trulli takes the win and the championship lead in San Marino as conditions worsened throughout the race. Trulli came from nowhere to benefit from mistakes and non-finishes.
The track started dry but drizzle appeared early on. Minardi took the early advantage but as conditions worsened, so did their chances. Yoong began to struggle in the conditions and was holding up 5 cars. Webber and Montoya managed to squeeze past him on lap 12 but two laps later, loads of cars darted in for wet tyres. Montoya planned his stop to perfection and took the lead.
While that was going on Coulthard stopped on lap 3 with transmission failure and Massa ran wide and crashed on lap 5. De La Rosa retired on lap 18 with transmission problems.
Montoya almost threw it away with a mistake on lap 25 with pit stops around the corner but his only challenger, Webber, retired on lap 30 with transmission problems.
Raikkonen was slowing down with a water leak on lap 31 and was off the track, Salo lost it, hit Raikkonen, Raikkonen's car flew over the wet grass and crashed straight into Michael Schumacher, who had to retire with front wheel damage. Salo managed to get his front wing repaired and continue. McNish also retired with a water leak on lap 49.
Montoya was cruising to what was certain victory when mice got into the machinery and his transmission failed leaving Trulli to take the lead and victory.
Ralf Schumacher had trouble with the conditions and traffic but managed 2nd. Yoong struggled home 3rd followed by the BAR's of Panis and Villeneuve with Button rounding out the top 6.
