WWF Royal Rumble
One thing that is certain in the three ring circus that is Sports Entertainment is that you never know who's going to be gunning for you or when they'll strike. So it stands to reason that you better have someone you can trust backing you up. Or at least someone in your corner who hates your enemies more than he hates you.
Each Superstar has three help menus that you can choose from with various combinations of Signature Moves, dizzying assaults, tandem attacks, spirit or health pick-ups, assaults with foreign objects or just supplying you with the foreign object to make the assault. Choose your partner and his assortment of moves wisely because it will make the difference in the long run.
Throw away everything you know about Sports Entertainment games. This is not a simulation. This is not a calculated rise to the top of the World Wrestling Federation.
Royal Rumble is a visually stunning, lightning-paced, jabroni-pounding thrill ride. Slap in the disk, turn on the power and get ready for furious Arcade Action.
Fast, fluid, easy-to use controls let you dive headfirst into the frenzied fight. Use the unique style of each Superstar to annihilate your opponents one-by-one - from the gritty extreme grappling style of Tazz, filled with suplexes and submissions, to the brutal high-impact moves of the Big Red Machine, Kane. Master the moves and hone your skills to face the two Arcade Modes or take on your friends in the Vs. Mode.
In the Exhibition Mode, you must match up against 10 of the top World Wrestling Federation Superstars one-on-one. Or is it? Well, it's as close as a clean man-to-man match as you're going to get. You see, each of you has a friend at the ready to interfere. And you can always count on a little interruption from other Superstars who may be jealous that you're in the spotlight. Oh yeah, and if you don't finish your opponent off quick enough, you never know where in the arena the fight may lead.
The Royal Rumble is a little more straight-forward. It's simple: you have to send 100 wrestlers over the top rope. No other stipulations. No other goals. Just a good old-fashioned battle royal with up to 9 Superstars in the ring at once!
WWF Smackdown
The most electrifying show on broadcast TV comes to PlayStation in all its glory! Follow the adventures of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Undertaker, and the rest of the World Wrestling Federation® as they battle for control both in and outside of the ring. Based on the world-renowned Toukon Retsuden wrestling engine, SmackDown! features over 30 painstakingly-crafted athletes, highly-detailed ring and backstage environments, tons of signature moves, and the best wrestling and grappling system ever witnessed on PlayStation.
...with Special Guest Referee! You never know what’s going to happen in the World Wrestling Federation®. Friends one day could be bitter enemies the next. And the guy you stab in the back during Raw is War™ could be the guest Referee for your big match on SmackDown!™
Innovation is always a key, and one of the new things we brought to the table in SmackDown!™ was the special guest Referee feature. A little extra drama to add to the mix – is the Ref going to cheat you out of a critical win? It’s one thing to have to deal with enemies interfering in your match… but what do you do when the Referee won’t make the count? Or when he piledrives you into the mat? Well, you know what Stone Cold would do.
Don’t go away thinking that the world of Sports Entertainment is against you though. The odds are just as likely that the Ref will dislike your opponent and help you out with a fast count. And then there are the occasions in which you’ll get to wear the black and white stripes yourself. Will you call it down the line?
Overall
If these games are this damn good imagine how the PS2 ones are gonna be, as well as Smackdown 2 and No Mercy.
