But this one is really, really hard.
If you get frustrated by the other two, then don't even go near this one.
Double-hard but good fun.
I am currently camped out high on a valley top, awaiting the arrival of a convoy so I can attack and steal their munitions.
Except my comrades are stupid and think firing AK-47s at T75 tanks is a good idea, then wonder why they all get annihilated within 30 secs, leaving me to flee at speed into the woods.
Played the demo of the original and hated it.
Crossing a field, there was me running forwards trying to reach the village and "DEAD".
Damn, try that again.
Off I go across the open fields and "DEAD"
F###
Run across the field from left to right and "DEAD"
This sucks.
2 weeks later, try it again.
Walk instead of running and lay down, crawling behind a bush. Take the occasional shot before crawling behind a tree.
Not dead.
This is pretty cool.
Shoot someone, actually shot one of them.
This rules.
Charge about like a muppet and you'll hate this game.
Treat it like it's real, stay down and dont run anywhere and it rocks.
And the support via patches and upgrades is 2nd to none.
An independant programme house (Bohemia Interactive) through Codemasters.
Compare that with MOH:AA through EA.
If you like tactical, brain-using war sims then buy this and support little programming houses that take care to create something for love and effort, not profit and shafting the customer.
Then as I got used to the game I started to find it a lot easier to play. It's mainly down to the fact that flashpoint allows you to tackle the missions pretty much any way you want. Go in head first with all guns blazing, hang back and try and snipe the enemy from a distance or just go in with the rest of the troops and fight along side them. It's that kind of freedom that is abcent from other games in the genre.
More often than not one or two shots kill you, and the enemy soldiers and tanks are VERY accurate.
When I first bought the original game I thought I’d wasted my money because enemies hiding in the trees kept killing me repeatedly and I good very frustrated as some missions just seemed impossible.
As I got more into the tactical thinking though I got better at the game.
Good tactical knowledge is essential, as careless or 'arcade style' play can leave you stranded in open fields and spotted by your enemies as a sitting duck. Learning to use the contours of the land to your advantage is a must, such as attacking the enemy from high vantage points etc.
Perseverance is the key, and you shall be rewarded with a great game.
Damned hard.
There's no thousand-miles-an-hour sprint through corridors, blasting away endlessly and grabbing health/armor packs to replenish.
It takes time, planning and nerve to dash across an open field knowing you could get shot. No first-aid for you soldier. No being able to lean around a corner and lob a flashbang.
It's too realistic and instant-death.
But that's why I love it.
Spending 5 mins searching with binoculars to make sure nobody is around, running across open space and hearing the squeak of an approaching tank ages before you see it...
