Hi,
I just bought a massive PHP book called "Mastering PHP 4.1" and ive been trying for ages but cant seem to get anywhere. It came with a disc that contained a PHP d/l, a MySQL d/l, and a an apache d/l. I have tried my hardest to follow the instructions in the book but to no avail. I cant seem to set it up. Ive tried running a php page and nothing shows up.

Since when were good things complicated?

All you need to do is open the config, change your directory root, add two lines and restart Apache. It really is that simple!

Anyway, using anything but Apache won't work properly. PHP behaves differently with different servers. Only slightly mind, but differently enough. It was driving me crazy wondering why a script wasn't behaving correctly until I realised that it was because I *wasn't using apache*.

I mean, hell, even ANDI can set one up...

I just got http://www.omnicron.ca/ and that was easy, it supports PHP, its basicly a Web Server program. I just use it for testing PHP Scripts off-line, is that what your after??? I thought Apeche was to complcated just for that as its the Main Server Software people use.

Ok you are doing it the hard way, the easy way of install PHP on to ur computer is to go to:-

http://www.foxserv.net

From there you can download everything u will need to install PHP on to ur computer. U will then just need to run the .exe file and once that have done that u can just start running the scripts. d:)

2) Tried the maunual at PHP.net tried it, but didnt work, im sure i was doing something wrong, could figure out what it was.
3) Tried various other sites (no urls)
