In about a year I reckon loads of people will have a playstation 2. It will be all over the arcades, it will be absolutely everywhere. The good thing about it is that it's like a pc, loads of things can be plugged into it and it is much more interactive than the existing consoles. It could be linked up to a HiFi system and it supports dobly surround 5.1, does this mean surround sound gaming. Just imagine how immersive the games will seem. I heard a rumour that the reason sony are adding all of these extra things is because they don't just want games players to buy the ps2, thats it's key to selling well. It's kind of like a pc, but with better graphics. All I can say is I hope it's as good as the hype, allthogh I got a free video on a mag with a trailer of timesplitters and it looks comepletly amazing, and I heard it allso has a level editor which will make the playability endless. I'm definately getting one. Are you?

I scrolled through very slowly to see if there was any relevant info, and read the end part which was obviously new.

Be interesting to see what our man Dan_UK makes of it, as he picked me up on my 'excessive' quoting!

Over to you, Dan_UK...

"When posting a message to a public bulletin board, forum, or newsgroup, stick to the topic. Don't indiscriminately post unrelated comments, or worse--advertisements--to every newsgroup you can think of. This practice, known as spamming, will quickly lead to another unpleasant Internet practice, flaming. What is flaming? Sometimes you might offend someone unintentionally. Be prepared to receive some angry e-mail or be treated rudely in a public discussion. This is called being flamed. If you attack back, you will spark a flame war. To contain the heat, the best response usually is no response at all."

That was from the Beginners Guide to Netiquette.

Just illustrating the whole point of *choice*.

Was it really necessary to cut and paste EVERY message on this thread?

Mmm lets think about that one. No internet
connection till next year.....very interactive.

The DC can also be linked up, aswell as any other
PC and console system. The PS2 has only a 48
channel sound processor, which is very out dated,
so i doubt that Dolby Pro-logic will be available.
Even the DC has a 64 channel yamaha sound
processor.

Choke, cough splutter. I dont think anyone should
make a comparison between PC's and consoles untill
the X-Box comes out. There is no way any current
console can match the PC in any way shape or form.
Saying that though my top-end PC is sitting in the
corner gathering dust whilst i play Metropolis
Street Racer on my son's DC.

Am i getting one?????? er well...... absolutely
not. I think it will mainly sell well because of
previous PS1 owners who have pledged there lives to
Sony. They love Sony's capability of pushing out
hundreds of rubbish games with just a handfull of
top-notch original titles.

My son recently took his DC to his uncles house. His
uncle has over 80 PS1 games. My son has about 12 DC
games but he only took 2 with him. Toy Commander
and Crazy Taxi.
Both the DC and PS1 were playing side by side but
only one was stuck on the Demo screen.....mmmmm
which one do you think.....the best selling console
ever with the fastest selling game ever (GT2) was
stuck on the opening title screen. Ha i thought why
do you think so many people buy the PS1 when it is
absolutely out-classed??? It's not as if it is much
cheaper.....so why.....hype maybe?....the fact that
everyone has got one so it MUST be the best is more
like it.

You have a son? Funny, judging by your comments, I
would never have thought you were old enough.

I'm not in a trance - I choose PS2 because it has
most of the games I want to play; presumably that's
the same reason you bought a Dreamcast. Do I label
you as an idiot? No. Your previous post went some
way to acheiving that.

> Mmm lets think about that one. No internet

Internet connection is not a necessity. Modems are
generally too slow, which is why I don't even play
on-line games on my PC. That said, while Sony are
waiting for broadband, they are considering a
stop-gap official USB modem. Third-party developers
have also announced modems. Oh, and next year... is
only weeks away.

Indeed, PS2 doesn't have DD5.1 - it has DTS, which
is superior. See

The cost wasn't the point though. The fact is that in quality of texture, anti aliasing, 32 bit colour etc etc the PC is far superior even with current video cards. My graphics card has effects which both the DC and PS2 couldn't even dream of and it was about 240. (sorry not pound sign on my keyboard).
It gets a bit annoying when people make the assumption that consoles can equal PC graphics and number crunching capabilities.
Take it from me 4X Full Scene Anti Aliasing will blow everyone away.

Didn't shoot myself in the foot no, maybe my brother in law yes. But he is another example of this Sony loving.
He quite happily put down a deposit just on the basis that his PS1 is the most popular. I personally cant see the logic in that.

>Yes, these are discussion forums; discussion

Did i even say the PS2 was bad??? Maybe a bit outdated but it is, especially for a next gen system.
I have played a PS2 and would even buy one IF it was a major step forward, but it isn't.
The whole point of my original post was to point out that the PS2 is not as fantastic as everyone says it is.
The DC though was a major step forward and the fact it can still churn out top end competitive titles, 2 years after it is launched, is a testement on how advanced it was over 2 years ago.

Oh come on. When it was launched the PS1 was way over hyped. Every time i turned on the TV there was a commercial for it.
True the PS2 hasn't been hyped at all on the TV. (just everywhere else, even the Guiness book of records)

>If you're happy with your Dreamcast, what are you

The DC is my son's. I was a Sega lover but now i have moved away from consoles to the PC. I have a bit of sympathy with Sega though because i would hate to see them leave the industry. Maybe the tie up with the X-Box and gameboy advance will help them.

I dont think i am being narrow minded, i was just stating a few facts.
Farras had made a few assumptions which technically are not true, ie "more interactive" "better than a PC".
I dont see why putting over some facts is being narrow-minded.

>I could quite easily afford all of the consoles

Dont turn this into a p****ng match as that is very immature.
