I'll go into the reasons. They're both bitter gits.

No! I don't! It's just that I'm old(er than most) and it's a saying my parents have always used.
Twas excellent.
But that's not important right now...

Yes, but it's different this time.
It's MY friend involved :-)
Yeah, I know. Sorry about that.

I'm sure they could if they wanted to, but they're being stubborn about it.
Sure, he may sign up under another name, or he may think 'screw this for a game of soldiers' and take his posting and business elsewhere.
What I dislike most about this whole thing is not the fact that he was banned, nor the stubborn streak that SR are showing collectively, but the apparent favouritism shown for some users over others.
Add to that the refusal to answer legitimate questions (like why wasn't the original poster who obtained the pirate software also banned); the apparent "it's our forum, we ban who we want so up yours" attitude shown to other posters commenting on the situation; in fact the whole ridiculously stubborn attitude.
It may seem like it's blown out of all proportion, but it's the whole principle of the thing. It's a very sorry situation, and is certainly not what I've come to expect from the SR staff, who are normally more than reasonable. I think they've let themselves down on this one.
