Since Sega did give up the console market, Nintendo fans have been blessed with Sonic Advance, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and the amazing Super Monkey Ball. All good games in their own right, also Virtua Striker 3 will be released very soon and other future releases like Super Monkey Ball 2. I could go on about titles forever, but the point I'm trying to get is that Sega have friends. Before the consoles retirement they were foes with Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony, but now they are allies. Okay - so Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo may not be the best of friends, but they all get games from Sega.
There is also something that has recently happened that means Sega can make games that they used to be competing with, which recent event is this? The Triforce Board. Since this Sega's Amusement Vision have been given the job of creating F-Zero. Could this mean secret racers like Sonic or baby from Super Monkey Ball? Who knows, but since this, the possibilities have become a whole lot bigger. But that makes me ask "What Next?" A Sonic adventure with Bowser as the boss? Mario going up against Knuckles? Or even a Mario Kart-Monkey Ball cross? Nobody knows. But with Link making an appearance in Soul Calibur 2, my mind has opened up and these things have become more than minute possibilities.
But what if Sega made consoles again? Is there a law that they're not allowed to? Nope, but if they did, they'd have the best console of the lot.
The reason being is because Sega make games for Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony and surely one of them would return the favour. Plus with the news that Nintendo are doing a Sega too that would mean Sega would definitely get some Nintendo games. This would mean that Sega would get 'the' best console of the lot, because what makes a console great? The games.
Sega may be able to do the impossible, making a 'One format' console. But there's still the problem of if other companies would make games for them. Some might, and others might not, but we may never find out.
Sega don't make consoles
But if they did
They'd be the best consoles in the world...

Oh yeah, I used to love that game :o)
I still think that with 80% of games, the older ones were the best. But that's just me being an old fart.
Sega, I still believe, make some of the best and original games around, and now they are sharing them with the other consoles, is making them more money, which was really their downside in the console market.
I can see them building back up again, getting rid of the debt, and who knows, maybe make a new console. But, I don't think they would do that until they are well in the green, money wise of course. After all, their last couple consoles havn't done to great, so I doubt they would want to jump back into a market where their last two attempts didn't work out as they would have liked.

SEGA's decision to become a third party developer is the best decision they ever made. Think of it this way... if SEGA are making games for the PS2 and X-Box, then all those Sony and Microsoft fanboys will stop slagging off SEGA, because they're contributing to the consoles that these fanboys go to bed with.
We've heard nothing TRUE about this...
I'm not even too sure that it'll even happen now that SEGA have pulled-the-plug on their consoles.
But the idea of SEGA and Nintendo working together is sweet. :)

With the rumours that Nintendo might be dropping out of the console industry when the GameCube is gone (estimated at 7 years), and with SEGA not making consoles, if they did a joint effort it would be much cheaper. Plus most old skool gamers who like their sonic, zelda and mario would but the console it no time. Exclusive would be most likely what would make it succeed. Although the rumours have not been justified as true or false yet (well I haven't seen anything), you never know. I thought SEGA would bounce back from the Dreamcast.
Also if Nintendo got some more exclusive with companies such as Capcom, it'd be great. It's quite obvious that the Resident Evil series will be a hit and more contracts will hopefully be signed.
Even if there wasn't an actual console made, the arcade would surely seel better. SEGA, Namco, Nintendo and Capcom have been getting more friendly, so maybe they're form an Arcade only company, it could happen.
Oooooh, there's so many possabilities. There have been quite a few suprises in the 21st century, so why not a couple more to keep to keep us on our toes.
Oh, and by the way, can't wait for Sonic Adventure 3 and Super Monkey Ball 2 :-)
(They haven't got enough money yet ;-))
I doubt that they would have paied it off yet. Even though they are making loads of great games that are selling well, they still have to cover costs for game development! Soi think it will still be a while till SEGA wipe out that debt and start to make profit that they deserve to make.
I have said this from day one and I know not everyone agrees with me. But making consoles for a company like SEGA must be a great thing, and stopping something a company is good at is annoying and I think SEGA cant wait to create another console... of course they are much more weary but I am very confident that SEGA will make a come-back!
I'm also looking forward to one day getting Sonic Adventure 2: Battle on the GameCube also. I would get it on the Dreamcast (when I get one) but i'll probably have Sonic Advance, and I wanna see how this interesting link-up system works.
Good to see you can still enjoy classic SEGA games! :)
Shame there's no Streets of Rage though. :(
